In a first for myself, I am going to do a recap/review of tonight’s Gossip Girl since a full recap plus my remarks on an episode that is brimming with discourse would have been lengthy, yet paltry in details. Next week, we should have a full on recap, but there was a lot I wanted to tackle about the two R’s (relationships and revelations) that were screaming at us through the storylines last night. Let’s start with…
Relationships
Dorota and Vanya’s wedding was THE perfect backdrop for last night’s chaotic liaisons that were headed for the pit of Hell. But the thing is that the backdrop wouldn’t have worked if it wasn’t anybody else’s wedding from the upper east side; it had to be Dorota’s. Why? Because it takes a commoner to convey to the denizens in the world of Gossip Girl that true love doesn’t need “empires” and money. It needs trust, commitment, understanding, and patience, all of which little to anyone displayed last night. Let’s breakdown the scenarios under relationships:
Chuck and Blair – Sure, Chuck made a generous gesture by giving Dorota and Vanya the wedding they deserved, but as Blair said herself, it was for ulterior motives. But to what cost? Chuck still couldn’t come to terms that he screwed up big time in his and Blair’s relationship. While Blair did go up there in her own accord, Chuck laid the breadcrumbs for her to follow. He cared more about his precious empire rather the unsullied love that Blair had for him. Blair had so much love for CB to the point that she blindly followed his every move, no matter the moral implications and it left her either being burned or looking stupid, which is why I am so glad about how things turned up last night.
Seeing Blair be basically undiscerning when it came to what was right for Chuck instead of what Chuck wanted was nerve-wracking for a while, but thank GOD Blair lost the wool over her eyes and replaced them with some common sense glasses, courtesy of Barney’s. She rightfully broke up with Chuck so she can see clearly that they both need to revaluate what the hell is going on with their relationship. A great way of seeing this is just looking at Vanya and Dorota.
Vanya and Dorota – Simplicity at it’s best. The Humphreys were supposed to be our ‘normal’ average joes, but the lure and seduction of the glamourous life sucked them into the conundrum of the Upper East Siders lives. Luckily, Vanya and Dorota have been the same throughout and know that true love can come from the simplest things. Like that apartment Cyrus bought for the happy family in Queens (and that Eleanor acted a damn fool over…). Despite the shenanigans going on behind the scenes of their wedding, Dorota and Vanya still came out on top and I can’t believe that Eleanor had the nerve to even regulate on Dorota’s status and I am glad Cyrus set her ass in place. In the end, Vanya and Dorota’s simplicity correlates with what Chuck and Blair need: no games, no masks, just plain, simple love. Let’s move on to…
Revelations
Serena’s Triple Threat – When Carter Baisden showed his face again, I was like “What the hell is up with that?!?!?” I was sure that Carter would try to breakup Nerena and be the bain of my existence. But no, I was wrong… well about the latter.
Jenny F*ing Humphrey turns out the be the thorn and boy was she an epic agony. Serena faced down Carter and seemingly (but impractically) was over him despite her agonizing quest to save his soul earlier this year. So her comes Little J out of a Mean Girls gene pool ready to wreck hell on the happiness of Nate and Serena, implicating stuff that she has no clue about whatsoever. When all is revealed, Jenny will look like a bigger fool than she already does. When will she learn that if she continues to frak things up then bad things will be like accessories to her Good Girl Gone Bad Attitude Ensemble?
Nate’s distrust can tie in with Jenny’s duplicity, because Nate is both insecure about his relationship with Serena and is stupidly being lead on by a 16 year old, who is not at all in her right mind at the moment. I don’t want to even go there now.
The final threat? Lily. I say this, because whenever Serena found a clue about her father this year, Lily was either there or two steps behind or forward. So one has to wonder what in the hell could Lily be trying to achieve with William van der Woodsen? Why has Lily seen (and we have heard about) a man who has been only vaguely mentioned in the three years of Gossip Girl‘s history? Time will tell and it needs to hurry up, because I would like to see Serena with someone come season’s end…
Eleanor’s Slip of the Lip – While it wasn’t just that, it was an eye-opener. Harold might’ve left Eleanor because he was gay, but Eleanor being mean could’ve helped his transition to men a smooth process. For her to open her mouth and say that Dorota was only a maid pissed me off to no end. I don’t care if she got a revelation or not, but it sure showed another layer of Eleanor that I do not approve of.
Eric’s Possible New Beau… – Is Bisexual. Eric seems to have a problem with it, but I don’t. We see bisexual women on TV all the time, so it will be interesting to see a bisexual male on TV as well for a change and see how Eric deals with it.
Rufus’s Quest For Answers – Rufus. Just sit Lily down and frakking TALK!!!!! With an OPEN MIND!!!! It is simple as one two three, Humphrey!!!! UGH!!!!!!!!
Ok I am spent. What are your thoughts?
