Gordon Ramsay Talks Working Around the World and Why He Hates ‘TV Chef’

Gordon Ramsay is a chef and television personality who is as well-known for his fiery temper and swearing on-screen as he is for his culinary abilities. He is famous for his shows ‘Culinary Genius’, ‘The F Word’, ‘Kitchen Nightmares’, and ‘Hell’s Kitchen’. Television viewers from both sides of the Atlantic watch his shows and look forward to listening to his string of expletives. He has even set up his own production company in collaboration with All3Media called ‘Studio Ramsay’ and is planning on mixing documentaries with cooking programs.

Ramsay first came two Mipcom over 20 years ago and arrived on Reg Grundy’s yacht as he was working as a private chef for the TV impresario at the time. Ramsay credits Grundy with teaching him the meaning of hard work and has said he has huge respect for the man. Fast-forward to 2017 and Gordon Ramsay is making a return to Mipcom for the first time and this time his life is somewhat different. While attending the event, he talked to Variety about his life now.

He talked about how it is important for him to keep his projects real, regardless of what they are about and also said that it is essential to him to work on things he is passionate about. If he doesn’t feel passion for a project, then he simply doesn’t take it on. He says this is why he hates being called a TV chef. It is a term he hates and describes himself as a real person who is also on the television who has mastered his craft and tried to push the boundaries.

When asked about which of his shows is his favorite, he responded that it depends on what he is working on at the time. However, he is hugely proud of ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ as the filming of seasons 17 and 18 is now complete. Ramsay quite rightly points out that anything that gets beyond season 10 is huge.

As a popular television personality in both the United States and the UK, it makes sense that he compares the experiences of working in each of these countries from time to time. While the UK is his true home, he suggests that working on shows is even better because there is triple the budget and this gives a show the potential to become three times as a big as in the UK.

However, he does not just work in the UK and the US as many of his television series require him to shoot in locations across the world. Not all of these are glamorous as the experience he describes of sitting in a jungle in Columbia with no money and a security guard carrying a gun suggests.

Gordon Ramsay is currently focusing on Studio Ramsay and working out in which direction he wants to go in the future. While he intends to continue having a strong focus on food in the projects the studio takes on, he is also looking at many other ideas, including a scripted drama set in a restaurant. He says that to get where he is today, he has been to hell and back. Ramsay is now excited about what the future holds.
