Winter will finally arrive when Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres. Unfortunately for fans of the HBO fantasy drama, though, winter won’t really be coming until summer, as rumors of the series pushing back its start date have officially been confirmed by HBO.
The cable network announced on Monday that Game of Thrones Season 7 will consist of seven episodes and won’t kick off until the summer of 2017. That launch date is a couple months later than usual for the series, which typically begins its new seasons sometime in April.
“Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing,” said Casey Bloys, president, HBO programming in a statement. “Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”
Additionally, HBO also confirmed that Mark Mylod, Jeremy Podeswa, Matt Shakman, and Alan Taylor will serve as directors for Game of Thrones Season 7 and that the show will film in Northern Ireland, Spain, and Iceland.
Game of Thrones fans, how do you feel about the longer wait for Season 7? And do you think seven episodes is enough for what will more than likely be the show’s penultimate season? Comment below and let us know.
