Adults put a lot of effort into being funny. They try to impress their friends with clever jokes, spend hours perfecting their stand-up routines, and some even make millions making others laugh. But the thing is, none of them quite compare to the natural comedic talent that children seem to have.
Below, we’ve rounded up hilarious antics kids have gotten up to, much to their parents’ amusement. These little ones certainly have a way of turning even the most ordinary situations into pure entertainment. Scroll down to check out the posts and upvote your favorites!

Kids have a special talent for making adults laugh.
Sometimes, they don’t even realize they’re being funny and simply say whatever pops into their heads. Other times, they know exactly what they’re doing, but their ideas are so wonderfully creative and unexpected that you can’t help wishing you could take a peek inside their little minds.
It’s no wonder researchers are just as fascinated and have spent years studying how children’s sense of humor develops.

Children start discovering their sense of humor at a very young age, perhaps younger than you might expect.
Researchers at the University of Bristol asked the parents of 671 children across four countries about what made their little ones laugh. They found that some babies were already amused by things like funny faces and silly noises at just one month old.
By two months, around half were laughing at their parents’ playful antics, and by 11 months, half had started trying to make others laugh themselves.

As children get older, their ideas of what’s funny become more elaborate. Around the age of two, they become more aware of social rules and what’s considered normal or expected. This means they can start making jokes by deliberately breaking those expectations.
For example, they might put underwear on their heads or insist that a pig says “moo.” Researchers have found that toddlers this age can even come up with their own jokes rather than simply copying adults.

#12 My 2 Year Old Believes That Snowmen Make A Sound, And That Sound Is Roaring
Any parent knows the animal sound drill: “What sound does a dog make” and your toddler (hopefully) says “ruff-ruff-ruff”.
After exhausting all the typical animal sounds one day, (chickens, cows, horses, goats, pigs, turkeys, birds, cats, elephants) my wife was trying to think of new animals sounds and for whatever reason (I still don’t know why she chose this) she asked our toddler “What sound does a snowman make”. Our daughter instantly responded “ROAR!!!” without even thinking about it.
We thought it was a fluke, but for the next several weeks we’d randomly ask about the sound that a snowman makes and every time she’d let out a large toddler sized “ROAR!”

When children’s language skills improve, they find entirely new ways to entertain themselves. They start inventing nonsense words and playing around with expressions they’ve heard from adults.
Eventually, they begin to understand more complicated jokes and wordplay. Research on children’s humor suggests that by around seven, many can appreciate puns and riddles that would have gone straight over their heads a few years earlier.

But there’s one part of the brain that takes much longer to mature: the prefrontal cortex. This region helps us control our impulses and think before we speak. It continues developing into early adulthood, so children are still getting better at these skills.
That’s partly why a child might loudly ask why Grandpa has so little hair or announce at the dinner table that Mom’s cooking tastes like socks. It can be hilarious to witness, though certainly a little mortifying for the adults who have to explain themselves afterward.

As children grow older, however, they begin to realize that being brutally honest isn’t always the kindest thing to do. They learn that certain comments can hurt people’s feelings and that sometimes it’s better to keep their opinions to themselves.
One study involving children aged three to eleven found that even preschoolers sometimes told little white lies to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, and this became more common with age.

By the time we reach adulthood, many of us have become far more careful about what we say and how we behave. We worry about what others think of us, and the fear of looking foolish can make us less willing to act silly.
In fact, research on adult playfulness suggests that concerns about appearing immature or irresponsible can discourage adults from being playful. Eventually, all that self-consciousness can make it harder to be as spontaneous and carefree as we were as kids.
#22 My Little Guy Firmly Believes That If He Lifts Something “High” Above His Head, We Cannot Reach It
I wanted to make a demonstration of this, so when I found him playing with a toy, I pretended that I wanted to take it.
I chased him all over the place, and he screamed and laughed and ran away from me.
Each time I got him cornered though, he would lift his hands above his head, looking at me victoriously.
Because obviously, if he lifts the toy THAT HIGH, no one could possibly reach it.

#23 My Son Actually Believes That Everything Has A Life. I Overheard Him Apologizing To The Bedroom Door After I Slammed It (I Was Not In Bad Mood, It Was Due To The Wind)
He was like “Dear door, Please don’t cry, daddy didn’t hurt you on purpose.”
And he insisted on covering his quilt with a smaller blanket, because “the quilt may feel cold”. I immediately asked him “Seriously? What if the small blanket feels cold? ” I kicked myself the minute I said that.
After covering with the seventh blanket, I finally managed to persuade him, that this one totally felt no cold.
He was also talking to the bike after I took him to a park nearby.
“Thank you big bike.”

#24 My 3-Year-Old Truly Believes That An Ice Pack Can Make Anything Better
He had a nightmare a few nights ago, and woke up crying. I went to comfort him, but he was horribly upset and wouldn’t stop screaming. Then suddenly it occurred to me that I might offer him an ice pack. He immediately agreed that that would make him feel better, and stopped crying as soon as I left to go get him the ice pack.
By the time I returned with the ice pack, he was already sound asleep.

Perhaps that’s why we could all benefit from channeling our inner child a little more often. There’s something wonderful about being able to laugh at the most ridiculous things without worrying about what anyone else thinks.
Of course, growing up comes with responsibilities, and we can’t always be as easygoing as we once were. But making a little more room for silliness in our lives certainly wouldn’t hurt. After all, who says having fun is just for kids?

#26 Feathers Grow In Pillows So The Birds Can Wear Them
Recently my 3-year-old was playing on a chair in his room and found a small feather poking out of the cushion, as sometimes happens. I asked him about it, and he explained to me that “feathers grow in pillows.”
I asked, “But what about birds?”
Then he elaborated, “Feathers grow in pillows so the birds can wear them.”

#27 We’ve Been Ordering A Lot From Amazon — So Much So That My 2-And-A-Half-Year-Old Believes That He Came To Us From Amazon, Too
We have now started talking to him about bringing him a sibling. He is convinced that by saying that, we mean we are going to ‘order it from Amazon’ (his favourite phrase these days).
So I guess he believes Amazon is the modern day stork?

#28 My Wife Was Shocked And Laughed For Ages
My daughter asked my wife, ‘Mom, Yusra (her cousin) told me that you will [pass away] when I grow up. Is that true?’ ‘Baby,’ my wife replied, ‘everyone has to [pass away] someday.’ My daughter shook her head and said, ‘No. You are not going to [pass away]. You and I will both live forever. Only dad has to [pass away]

#29 My 3-Year-Old Son Has Dinosaur-Themed Sheets And Pillows On His Bed Because, Well, He Loves Dinosaurs
A few weeks ago, he woke up crying that his ears hurt. He had a cold and, as it turned out, a bad ear infection. I took him to the pediatrician, who asked him, ‘Well, buddy, what do you think happened?’ My son very somberly said, ‘Well, two of the dinosaurs on my pillow had a fight, and one of them decided to run off the pillow and hide in my ear. Unfortunately, it was the Stegosaurus, so his big spikes are poking me inside.’

#30 Needs Batteries
When my son’s electronic toys stopped working, i explained they needed batteries. It seemed like he understood what that meant because he would hand me the toy and wait for me to install fresh batteries. If I did not have batteries, he would accept that and play with something else. One morning he was using crayons to draw. When he took the very, very light blue crayon out of the box and tried to draw with it, the color barely registered on the paper. He looked at me and said, ‘Needs batteries.’

#32 My Little Sister Used To Believe That Her Mom Was A Cat And That Mommy Cat Wanted To Take Her Back
I have no idea how she ended up believing that but it probably started with our mom telling her to stop crying because the mommy cat will hear her and take her from us.
My sister believed this all through out her toddler years and she would panic at the sight of a cat nearby.
In fact, even as a teenager she’s still afraid of cats.

#33 My Daughter Has Always Held A Fascination For Sky And The Heavenly Bodies Specially The Sun
She is in kindergarten and loves to draw solar system in her drawings and knows the names and basic characterstics of planets in our solar system.
She observes and asks numerous questions regarding the sky, clouds, earth and other planets.
Now, one day I overheard her telling this to my other daughter :
“If we want to fly up in the sky we just have to get a big syringe to draw the light from the sun and insert it in ourself.”

#36 Winter Is Over And I Haven’t Seen A Single Penguin
We’re driving down the country road through orchards and pointing out the signs of Spring. Flower buds on the apple trees, furry creatures gnawing on soft new greenery; one of my older kids asked “so winter is over?” I answered “yes, in just a few days it will officially be Spring. My 3 year old begins to sob in her car seat. “What’s wrong, sweetie?” She takes a deep breath and sniffles a little before responding “winter is over and I haven’t seen a single penguin.”

#37 That Worms Need A Pre-Fishing Pep Talk
We went fishing with my toddler at about 3, and after learning about fish, worms, hooks and the like she looks deeply contemplative and serious for a few minutes. I actually thought she might be upset about the idea at first. Then she looks at the worm on the hook of her cute little Disney Frozen fishing pole and says sternly to the worm:
“Be Brave.”
Then plunk, she tosses it into the water without a second thought.
We’ve never laughed so hard. She still loves fishing to this day. :)

#43 My Daughter Believes Two Of The Most Funniest Things Which Are That Every Thing Is A Device To Say Hello And They All Can Sleep
For instance, she would pick up even her shoe and say, “Hello”. Or if I ask her to put her shoe to sleep then she will pat it by placing it on her shoulder and sing lullabies.

#44 ‘Where’s Your Dad?’
My husband and I would hang out with our friends and their toddler quite often, so their son was pretty comfortable around us. But it was almost always the four of us adults together. One time, I went to visit the mom/wife of this couple by myself. She and I were chatting when the 3-year-old asked me, ‘Where’s your dad?’ I chuckled a little and thought in confusion, ‘My dad? He doesn’t know my dad…???’ The boy repeated, ‘Where’s your dad?’ and I then realized that he was asking about my absent husband! It dawned on me that the only word he knew for an adult male was ‘dad.’ LOL

#45 My Toddler Believed That Instead Of Getting Bigger Herself, I Was Getting Smaller. She Told Me That When I Got Little, I Could Have Her Favorite Shirt. And She Told My Future Husband That When I Got Little, She Would Marry Him
“‘You can’t,’ he said.
‘Why not?’
‘Because I’ll be little, too.’
She nodded thoughtfully. She hadn’t thought of that complication.”

#46 When My Son Was Around 2, He Believed, For Some Reason, That I Was Batman
I have no idea where it came from. One day, he just got out of bed and started pointing to pictures of Batman and loudly proclaiming them to be ‘Daddy.’ It went on for about three months until it finally clicked why he thought I was Batman. At the time, he couldn’t really say ‘Batman’; instead, he would say ‘Bat’ with an inaudible sound at the end. His way of saying Batman coincided with everyone calling me ‘Matt,’ and so, in his head, he assumed that I was Batman. Of course, I was rather flattered and often would say to him, ‘I’m not saying I’m Batman, but have you ever seen Batman and me in the same room?’ He would always laugh and loved to tell anyone he met that his dad was Batman.”

#47 Only Boys Have Ears
The toddler was me, and it was 1959. My mother gave me a short haircut — a really short one for a little girl — and cut out the ears. For days, I walked around with my hands covering my ears until she asked why I was doing that. I said, ‘Only boys have ears.’ I had never seen girls’ ears. Girls and women all had long hair, and I only saw ears on boys and men. My toddler mind thought I was a freak

#48 She Believes That Using Shampoo Will Turn Her Hair Pink Gradually

Want some carrots?
No.
How about some power sticks?

Do you want some peas?
Yuck.
How about some green energy balls?
Yes, I want green energy balls!
And it mostly worked, haha. Now that she’s older, we joke about it.

#50 That Her Uncle Is Pregnant. And, Anyone With Some Extra Fat In Tummy Has Baby In It
When my sister was pregnant, my daughter asked me about her big tummy. I told her that there is a small baby inside, she will come outside when she will grow a little more.
Initially, it was difficult for her to grasp the idea , But when we visited my sister after few months and there was a baby, my daughter was in real excitement. She told me: “Mamma, you was right. Masi really had a baby in her tummy”
And from that day, whenever she find someone with a little big tummy, she whispers in my ear, “Mamma, I think that uncle (or Aunt) has a baby in tummy”
Once, when everyone of my family were watching television, my brother entered.
“Wow , Mama will have a baby soon.” she jumped of the couch and shouted (we call out mama to maternal uncle)
Everyone surprised.
She repeated with same excitement. : “Mama has a baby in his tummy”
We all laughed till our jaw started hurting.
My poor brother, felt little uncomfortable and worked hard to change the topic. I guess he has already planned to join gym soon.
