American pride is something unique to Americans. Over the past two decades up until Trump’s presidency, 81%-92% said they were extremely proud of their American identity, the Gallup data showed. Only this year, the numbers of extremely proud Americans dropped to a record low of 45%.
On the other hand, this alone shouldn’t be reason enough to forget such a seemingly basic fact as what your country’s flag actually looks like. But for some people, a few stars here and there don’t make that big of a difference, until someone points out this is the Liberian flag, or the Chilean flag, or the Malaysian flag.
The cursed emoji everyone has been throwing around may look like the spitting image of an American flag, but hey, guys, why don’t we all get our stars, stripes, and proportions right? In the meantime, I can’t deny there’s an element of hilarity to all this. And a big one.
