People have been telling stories in order to teach lessons to other people since the beginning. As a result, it is no coincidence that fiction is often filled with little morals, which are just as useful for teaching as they are for uplifting our spirits. Supernatural is no exception to this rule, not least because there is so much material out there from the TV show having run for so long.
Here are five things that Supernatural teaches us about our own lives:
Be Careful About Things That Seem Too Good to Be True
When something seems too good to be true, chances are good that it is the case. For that matter, just because two things are good, it doesn’t mean that they become great when they are combined, which is something that Dean learned to his displeasure with the turducken incident. In fact, this is something that all people should remember whenever they are tempted, which should reduce their chances of falling for something that will have serious consequences for their well-being down the road.
Learn to De-Stress
None of us face the same challenges as the Winchester brothers, but all of us encounter difficulties in the course of living our day-to-day lives. As a result, we need to learn how to de-stress in an effective but nonetheless appropriate manner so as to keep ourselves sane. For the Winchester brothers, this means drinking, snacking, and making wisecracks, but other people will have other solutions because everyone has their own preferred ways to relieve their accumulated stress.
Blood Is Thicker Than Water
The phrase “blood is thicker than water” is rather misleading because it is a contraction of “the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” In other words, family isn’t just defined by blood ties but also by the bonds between people. Just as how the Winchester brothers stand by those who stand by them while showing no such consideration for those of their relatives who have crossed the wrong boundaries, we can make our lives that much more pleasant by remembering that we can choose our own families.
Show Some Consideration
Supernatural has a simple rule in that the person driving the car gets to choose the music while the person sitting shotgun isn’t allowed to complain about it. By extension, this is something that could prove useful when extended to our day-to-day lives. After all, if everyone showed everyone else a little bit of consideration, the world would be a much more pleasant place to live in with minimal expenditure of time and effort on everyone’s part.
Never Give Up
By this point, the Winchester brothers have experienced so much misfortune that a viewer might be tempted to ask who they pissed off in a past life, but considering the shenanigans that they have gotten up, that is a question that might have a more literal answer than most people expect when they ask it. Regardless, the Winchester brothers never give up in spite of the odds pitted against them, which is an admirable attitude under certain circumstances for all of us. After all, there is no way to tell the outcome without making the attempt. For that matter, there are some things that are so important that we should give them our best effort even when the odds are stacked against us.
