Thomas Everett Scott is an American actor. He’s starred in television, film and theater over the past 2 decades. He is capable of a variety of genres and is known in Hollywood as a “nice guy”. 1. Early Life

Tom Scott was born in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts on September 7, 1970. His mom Cindy worked as an insurance sales representative and his dad, who passed away in 2007, was a Civil Engineer. Tom was the third of four children and grew up in suburbia with land to play on. While he acted in high school plays, Tom never thought he’d pursue a career as an actor. He began as a Communications major at Syracuse University but switched to Drama when he felt like that was where he belonged. After graduating in 1992 Tom moved to New York City with some college buddies and worked as a waiter while starting “aTheaterco” with his friends. Tom lives in Los Angeles with his wife of 20 years Jenni Gallagher and their daughter and son.

2. Break out roles

Tom Scott’s big acting break came when he got the role of Matthew on the television sitcom “Grace Under Fire”. He was on the show from 1995 through 1997. He got a big break when he got the role of Guy “Shades” Patterson in Tom Hanks’ 1996 film “That Thing You Do!”. Although Tom Hanks was reluctant to hire Tom Everett Scott because he was afraid Scott was too much like a younger version of Hanks, Tom’s wife Rita Wilson stepped in and advocated for Scott. It turned out, Tom Scott ended up learning a lot about acting from Tom Hanks. He learned to not act too much like acting like Tom Hanks, and he learned to play the drums. The cast of “That Thing You Do!” all hit at off and remain friends today. Tom Scott has called actor Steve Zahn one of his best friends.

3. Television and film career

Tom Scott has maintained a steady acting career. Following the success of “That That Thing You Do!” he was cast in the horror action film “American Werewolf In Paris”. Other films included “Dead Man On Campus” and “One True Thing”. Tom also had several television roles in shows including “Law and Order” and a recurring role on “ER” and many animated voice overs. Many of his roles during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s featured the attractive actor without his shirt on. He remains popular for his “everyman” characters and finds he’s getting more “dad” roles these days.

4. Theater and Poker

Thomas Everett Scott has acted steadily in theater which he loves. In 2003 he appeared in the off Broadway production of “Touch” in which he performed the 30 minute opening monologue. In 2005 he performed in the LA Ahmanson Theater production of “Dead End”. The stage production that takes place during the 1932 Depression era in New York City along the East River cost $3 million including the set that filled the orchestra pit with water to represent the East River. In the meantime, it turns out Tom Scott is quite the poker player. He toured in 2003’s World Poker Tour and is the only celebrity to make it to the final table.

5. Thomas Everett Scott today

Most recently Thomas Everett Scott has been seen in the 2016 film “La La Land”. He also played the dad in the last “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” film which was previously played by his friend Steve Zahn for the first 3 films of the series. Tom had roles in series including “Z Nation” and the period drama “Reign”, “Southland” and “Saved”. Tom’s latest foray is the sitcom “I’m Sorry” which airs on Tru TV and was just renewed for its second season. He stars in the family sitcom with Andrea Savage, and Tom enjoys working with the cast of comedians and adding a little bit of improve to his work.
