She’s not necessarily a newcomer to the industry but Sylvia Hoeks is at this point a new face for people to look at and a pleasant actress to watch. Recently people got a chance to see her in the role of Luv, a role that echoes that of Rutger Hauer in the first film and gives people a new perspective on what it means to be human with the understanding that her character is in fact a replicant and as such can never fully understand what it is to be born and grow and develop as a human might. Her portrayal of the character has met with high praise and would appear to be a big boost to her continuing career as an actor.
Here are a few things you might not know about her yet.
5. She started modeling at age 14.
She was scouted as a teenager and accepted as a model not long after. Since that point she’s only been climbing the ranks until she finally got into acting where she took off and began to really make an impression on audiences. It’s kind of amazing how young some folks are getting started but it also seems to be the norm nowadays, almost as if people can’t wait for the pressure of being famous. Of course if you love what you do then waiting isn’t that great an option.
4. She had her debut in 2007.
Her debut in films was what helped her to make a name for herself and to start winning awards and acclaim so that she might start becoming more well known. She rose to fame in Dutch TV and went from there, but at this point she’s become something of a star throughout the world as her name continues to grow and people take note of her accomplishments.
3. She’s an award-winning actress.
She won the golden calf, which is the equivalent of an Oscar in Dutch films, and this is what helped her star to rise. Demand for Sylvia’s presence started increasing after her award and hasn’t really let up since. It’s a good bet that she could be one of the new rising stars that will seek to take over when the older generation finally hangs it up.
2. She’s starring in Blade Runner 2049.
As the replicant Luv she’s both vicious and strangely contemplative as she shows humanity a side of the artificial beings that it almost seems like they’ve forgotten. While Ryan Gosling is billed as the star of the film Hoeks still manages to bring forth a feeling that his journey is not the only one that’s of great importance in this film. The legend that’s been built around Blade Runner is a lot to live up to but she seems to do just fine.
1. She had her first international role in 2013.
She played in the film titled The Best Offer and got to play alongside Geoffrey Rush, a very noted actor and a good mentor to anyone coming up in the business. Whether he managed to pass on a bit of wisdom to her or not is hard to say but there’s good indication that Hoeks is on the right course.
After her portrayal of Luv it’s going to be interesting to see where she goes next.
