Sometimes you’ve got to let go of those that are trying to make a name for themselves in any way possible and focus on those that have honestly done the work to make their fame. Stephen Daldry has for some time been a noted name in Hollywood since he has been responsible for some truly inspiring stories such as Billy Elliott and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. His love of film making has made him one of the top names in the business and has won him a great deal of awards and nominations throughout his career.
So here are a few other things you might not have known about him.
5. He’s an Oscar-nominated film maker.
You might have already guessed this from the intro but Daldry has an impressive list of producer and director credits to his name. His vision is masterful enough that he has been nominated more than once and his pictures usually garner nominations even if they don’t win that often. It doesn’t even matter that they aren’t among the favorites, they still tend to get the nod.
4. There’s talk of an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie and he’d be in on it.
Along with movies such as a Boba Fett movie and a Yoda movie there are current talks about a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi movie being in the works. There is no script as of yet but there’s no doubt that Daldry will be tapped to produce the movie, or direct it, and give it the kind of character and genius that he’s been so well known for throughout the years.
3. His films usually involve a redemptive character.
This is why he would be so great when it comes to a film about Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Jedi Master has gone into exile and is seeking to simply survive in a time when the rest of his order has been exterminated. He knows at one point that his former apprentice and friend turned upon the order and slaughtered them all, and feels the failure as his own in that he was not strong enough to turn Anakin from the dark side. That is need enough for redemption.
2. He has won a wide variety of awards.
The number of awards he’s won are numerous and a good number of them are based in England but he did manage to win a Tony award in 1994. His list of accolades is impressive enough to believe that he should be the one to take on the standalone Star Wars film. He could be the best thing that’s happened to Obi-Wan’s story in a long time.
1. At one point he was freelance reader of unsolicited manuscripts.
You can just imagine what a grueling job this must have been even back in 1989. Unsolicited manuscripts usually number in the hundreds if not thousands. It all depends on the company a person is reading for and whether or not they accept every submission that is given their way. It’s a wonder how many great scripts get trashed simply because there isn’t time to read them all.
