Sebastian Lelio is proving absolutely that he is a force to be reckoned with internationally. The Argentinian Chilean director has made countless films throughout his career, and has shown the passion and drive that he has for this industry. As we make our way through 2018, many are wondering what is next for the director, aside from his upcoming movie “Gloria”, which is set to star famous faces such as Julianne Moore, Michael Cera, and Brad Garrett (to name a few). In this article, we are going to give you a little inside scoop into the life of Sebastian Lelio, including five things that you may not now about this prominent director.
He Has Lived In Several Places
Most of this moving around occurred while he was still at a young age. Lelio was born in Mendoza, Argentina, but eventually moved to Vina del Mar, Chile when he was a young child. He also moved about every couple of years during his adolescence, including living in the United States and other cities within Chile during his adventures.
Career Began In 1995
Although his first feature films weren’t created and released until the late 2000s, Sebastian Lelio actually began his work back in 1995, working diligently creating a vast amount of short films, music videos, and even documentaries. This includes the documentary entitled “Cero”, which was a documentary that featured uncut clips and audio from the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
He Is An Excellent Writer
Not only is he a fantastic and accomplished director, but Lelio can also pride himself in his writing as well. In fact, Sebastian Lelio has written or co written on all of his films that he has released except for one, which was “Year of the Tiger”. This includes having written all of his short films as well.
His Education
In terms of his schooling, in regard to his career in the entertainment industry, Sebastian Lelio completed one year at the Andres Bello National University, where he studied journalism during that time. He ultimately graduated from the Chilean Film School (also known as the Escuela de Cine de Chile), which helped him to utilize his skills.
He Has Received Numerous Grants
As he has prospered within the industry, Sebastian Lelio has also won numerous grants that will help to aid him in his future projects that he is working on. Some of these include the Guggenheim Fellowship as well as the German DAAD.
As the years have gone on, we have only seen bigger and better projects coming from the works of Sebastian Lelio. We are looking forward to his upcoming project, “Gloria” which is set to release sometime in 2018, and will be a recreation of his 2013 feature film of the same title. We can only hope to see his international success continue to grow as time goes on, and that we will see him continue to prosper with awards and recognition galore. Trust us, it is totally worth it to take the time and watch a couple of Sebastian Lelio’s films, both feature and short. The industry most certainly has a lot to look forward to with Lelio.
