Sam Heughan is a Scottish actor who was born on April 30, 1980, in Balmaclellan in Dumfries and Galloway. He is best-known for playing Jamie Fraser in ‘Outlander’, the hit Starz series. Before he began his acting career, he enrolled at the Sottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow from which he graduated in 2003. While he studied, he took part in many stage productions but didn’t land his first television role until the year after he had graduated. This was in the 2004 series ‘Island at War’ in which he played the role of Philip Door. He has since gone on to work in many television series and has also had roles in several films. 1. He Has Won Many Awards
The acting talent of Heughan has been widely recognized as he has received many awards. In 2014, he shared the TV Guide Award for Favorite Duo with Caitriona Balfe. The following year, he won four awards including two Anglophile Channel Award for Favorite British Artist of the Year and Best Actor in a Television Series. In 2016, he was nominated for six awards of which he won two. Heughan won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Sci-Fi/ Fantasy TV Actor in 2017.
2. He Raises Money for Charities
In his free time, Heughan supports charities. Since 2011, he has supported a charity called Bloodwise and he is also the president of Scotland Bloodwise. In 2016, he took part in the Great North Run to raise money for this charity. In the same year, he was named as the first Global Ambassador for Barbour. In 2015, he decided to establish his own charitable foundation called ‘My Peak Challenge’.
3. He is Patron of Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (YTAS)
Heughan has been a patron of Youth Theatre Arts Scotland since August 2014. This is an important cause to him because he attributes his own acting success to his participation in youth theatre as a child and teen. He supports the mission of the charity which is to inspire and transform the lives of young people through their participation in youth theater and to give them opportunities to express themselves and perform.
4. He Has a Role in ‘The Spy Who Dumped Me’
Heughan is continuing to progress and be successful in his acting career and has landed a role in ‘The Spy Who Dumped Me’ which will be released 2018. He plays the role of Boyfriend Spy. This comedy movie is directed by Susanna Fogel who also co-wrote the film with David Iserson. Others starring in this movie include Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon. Production of the movie began in July 2017 in Budapest, Hungary.
5. He is Blond in Real Life, not a Red Head
Naturally, Sam Heughan has blond hair. However, most people recognize him for his auburn hair. He died his hair this color for his role in ‘Outlander’. In the book, the character of Jamie is described as having ginger hair. Heughan happily changed his hair color for the role to ensure the character he was playing was in keeping with the character in the book.
