Nikohl Boosheri is a Canadian actress who has appeared in a number of movies and TV shows over the course of her career so far. At the moment, she has a recurring role on The Bold Type, where she plays a photographer named Adena El-Amin who becomes close to that TV show’s protagonist Jane Sloan.

She Has Never Been to Iran
Boosheri has never been to Iran. Instead, she was born in Pakistan in either 1988 or 1989 as her Iranian parents were making their way to Canada. As a result, Boosheri identified as just a Canadian when she was growing up because she wanted to blend in with the rest of her class, which was all-White with her being the one exception to that rule. It was not until later that she decided to embrace her Iranian heritage.
Acting Enabled Her to Put Her Life in Order
As a teenager, Boosheri was rebellious, which got her into a fair amount of trouble. However, that began to change when she was introduced to drama, which convinced her that she wanted to become involved in it. Something that provided her with the impetus that she needed to start putting her life in order.
Her First Visit Outside of North America Was Lebanon
The first time that Boosheri had been outside of North America was when she visited the country of Lebanon for the filming of Circumstance, a movie that focuses on homosexuality in modern Iran. This happened in Lebanon because the film-makers couldn’t make their movie in Iran, meaning that they settled for the Levant country because it provided a real feeling of the Middle East. Even then, they had to conceal the exact nature of their movie in order to get past the Lebanese authorities, which actually made for a more authentic performance because of the constant pressure on the cast and crew. In spite of this as well as huge culture shock, Boosheri has stated that she would be interested in revisiting Lebanon, perhaps because she managed to build strong bonds of friendship with some of the Lebanese who worked on the movie.
She Was Congratulated By People in Iran Who Had Seen Her Movie
Despite the subject of Circumstance, Boosheri has stated that both of her parents as well as most of her relatives living in Canada liked it. Furthermore, it is interesting to note that she received a fair number of congratulations from Iranians still living in Iran who had seen the movie, which is perhaps unsurprisingly, banned in that country. As it turned out, people are quite talented when they want to get past censorship, with Iranians being no exception to that rule.
Sometimes a Songwriter
Besides her acting, Boosheri is also a songwriter. In particular, she has been known to work with Wild the Coyote, an American musician who was raised in the community of Templeton in the state of California but has since relocated to the city of Los Angeles in the same state.
