Kaya Scodelario is an English actress who was born in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, on March 13, 1992. She began her professional acting career in 2007 and is now best-known for her roles in television series ‘Skins’ and the ‘Mazerunner’ series of films. Most recently, she played Carina Smyth in the 2017 movie ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’. Here are five more things you probably did not know about Kaya Scodelario.
1. She Can Speak Fluent Portuguese
Scodelario’s father was an English man called Roger Humphrey who died in 2010. Her mother is Katia Scodelario, a Brazilian woman. The Italian surname comes from Kaya’s maternal grandfather who was Italian. As her parents divorced when she was a child, her mother raised her alone in London. Her mother’s native language is Portuguese, and she would speak in this language to Kaya. Therefore, Kaya became fluent in Portuguese.
2. She is Married to Benjamin Walker
In 2014, Scodelario met Benjamin Walker when they were both working on the film ‘The King’s Daughter’. They began dating and were engaged by December of that year. In 2015, the couple married and their first child, a son, followed in November 2016. Scodelario and Walker chose actor Daniel Kaluuya as the Godfather of their son. Benjamin Walker is an American actor who is best-known for playing the title role in the 2012 movie ‘Abraham Lincoln: The Vampire Hunter’. This is his second marriage as he was married to Mamie Gummer from 2011 to 2013.
3. She Has Worked as a Model
Although she is best-known as an actress, Kaya Scodelario has also worked as a model and was signed to Models 1 modeling agency. This was for her role in the TV series, ‘Skins’. Despite numerous nominations, she has only won one award. In 2013, she won the Ashland Independent Film Award for Best Acting Ensemble. Kaya Scodelario’s first film was ‘moon’, in which she played the character Eve Bell. This 2009 British science-fiction film was co-written and directed by Duncan Jones. Others who starred in this movie include Sam Rockwell, Robin Chalk, Dominique McElligott, and Benedict Wong. It was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best British Film. This film was made on a budget of $5 million and grossed $9.8 million at the box office.
