Five Things You Didn’t Know about Karamo Brown

If you are a fan of MTV, then you probably already know who Karamo Brown is. Otherwise, you might be scratching your head and wondering why you have never heard of this person before. If you don’t know who he is, you are sort of missing out, because he is not only a celebrity, but a truly unique individual who has a lot of life experience that other people can learn from. In fact, there are five things about him below that you probably don’t already know. You might know that he started his career in 2004 as the host of MTV’s popular reality show called The Real World. However, there is much more about him than meets the eye.

1. His path to start them is unique

Granted, he started his work as a celebrity in 2004, as previously mentioned. However, he made a decision to change careers after the show ended. As such, he actually worked as a social worker for almost 10 years before going back into the world of entertainment. This is certainly not the career path that most celebrities take, but once you start to learn more about him, you will begin to understand that this was really just a natural progression for him, and that is to be commended.

2. He follows his own path

You might be surprised to learn that he was the first openly gay black man to star on a reality television show. Remember, he got his start in television back in 2004, so it wasn’t as easy to be openly gay back then as it is now. The truth is, many would argue that there is nothing easy about it, even today and they would probably be right.

3. He’s also a producer

In order to round out his many talents, he is worked on some projects that were associated with The Huffington Post in which he served as the producer. Since he enjoys learning as much as possible about whatever he is involved in, not to mention taking a leadership role, it only makes sense that he would make this progression as opposed to merely remaining in front of the camera on an exclusive basis.

4. He fights for what he believes in

Brown has co-founded in organization that is designed exclusively to reduce the stigma that is often associated with HIV, as well as provide help for mental health issues that are often experienced by individuals in the LGBT community. This is something that is near and dear to his heart, and given his desire to take action and improve the world he lives in, it only makes sense that he would co-found such an organization.

5. He’s a volunteer

Brown works as a volunteer at a Los angeles-based organization that works with LGBT youth. As a matter of fact, he serves as the youth counselor there, helping young individuals who are facing similar situations that he faced, so they can learn how to deal with these issues in a more positive light. He often serves as a source of inspiration for young kids who really don’t know where they are supposed to turn for guidance.
