If you don’t know about Jazz Jennings it might be time to start opening your eyes a little more. The very real emergence of trans teens has been building throughout the years as awareness of how kids are changing as they grow older is being addressed. The very real idea that gender is fluid and not at all set has become a very well known fact and the rallying cry of those that want to be recognized for who they are not what society wants to label them as is finally starting to take root. Kids are being allowed to be who they are but in many cases are still being told by several people that this is immoral, unnatural, and even wrong in many instances. Jazz Jennings is a fierce and dedicated advocate for the trans community and from a young age has been a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ community.
So really, if you want to know more then there are a few other facts about her that you might not have known.
5. She is one of the youngest children to be identified as transgender.
Despite being born a boy, Jazz knew from a very young age that she liked boys and could not truly reconcile her feelings. Society after all has made it so that kids often feel the need to conform to what is seen as normal and natural rather than be who they are. With the support of her parents however Jazz was able to finally become who she was meant to be.
4. She helped to found the TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation.
Her parents have done a lot of the work, but Jazz has been at their sides helping out as much as she can. She’s gone on to make rubber mermaid tails for people to raise money for the cause that she’s chosen to champion throughout her life.
3. She identifies as pansexual.
Jazz is drawn more to a person’s personality than whether they are male or female. Her sexuality has little to do with gender and more to do with the person. Pansexuality is not about gender so much as it is about being drawn to people due to something other than physical attributes.
2. She was named one of Time magazine’s most influential teens.
In 2014 Jazz was named as one of Time’s most influential teens for the work she’d done to help trans individuals adjust and feel comfortable within society. It takes a very special individual to think of others when they are already going through such trials in their life, and Jazz has been shown to be a rather exceptional human being.
1. There are plans to model a doll after her.
The Tonner Doll Company has announced that this year they are going to be making a doll that is inspired by Jazz. It is a very big honor to be represented in such a way, especially given that the doll will be modeled explicitly after Jazz.
In a world where everyone should be allowed to feel comfortable about themselves Jazz Jennings is perhaps one of the greatest advocates for those that are still being persecuted.
