Five Things You Didn’t Know about Jaume Collet-Serra

Jaume Collett-Serra is a current film director and producer hailing from Spain. He’s been in the business for over a decade now and has managed to produce a few films that didn’t receive a lot of great praise but are still visually pleasing and easy to watch. His style seems to swing from being serious and rather bleak to keeping you on the edge of your toes wondering what’s about to happen next. Because of this it still seems like he’s trying to gain a foothold to where he can truly make an epic career out of what he can do, but has just a few steps to complete before he does.

So far his films are at least watchable and easy to enjoy, if you don’t get too critical.

5. He’s been active since 2005.

So he’s been around for longer than a decade but not yet long enough to come up with a true blockbuster that will leave people begging for more and calling him one of the great visionaries of his time. There’s still a lot of life left in him and there’s a good chance that if he keeps getting to work with A-list talent that he’ll produce something that will open to rave reviews and become the shining jewel of his career.

4. He directed The Shallows.

The Shallows is typically billed as another shark movie in which the shark is the antagonist and the protagonist is forced to do everything she can in order to elude and escape the demon fish that’s after her. Its reviews were heavy with criticism but seemed to neglect the idea that it was a carefully thought out movie aside from the fact that the shark was in fact made to act as though it had a vendetta against the protagonist.

3. His first feature film was The House of Wax remake.

A remake of the 1953 classic, this movie received horrible reviews but in all honesty wasn’t as bad people have made it out to be. The story was sound and the acting wasn’t horrible, there was simply not enough development to really get a person into the film. Plus he did one thing right when it came to Paris Hilton’s death scene. A good number of people laughed and even cheered when her character was killed off.

2. He’s directed and produced one TV show.

He was one of several producers on the show, The River, which is about an explorer that disappears while searching for secrets in the Amazon. When the man’s emergency beacon goes off after six months of him being assumed lost or dead, his son and several others go looking for him, filming the experience as a documentary of sorts as they go deep into the jungle to find the lost explorer.

1. He’s currently signed on to direct Jungle Cruise.

The movie takes its name from the Disney attraction that can be found in the theme park. Dwayne Johnson is set to star in this film, which should be a big reason why it be able to produce the kind of numbers that are needed.

His career is still on the rise and should become something even more impressive as time goes on.
