Five Things You Didn’t Know about “Finding Escobar’s Millions”

Finding Escobar’s Millions is a new TV show on the Discovery Channel. Like its name suggests, it will be centered around a pair of former CIA officers searching for the supposed treasure of the Colombian drug lord named Pablo Escobar. Here are 5 things you may or may not have known about Finding Escobar’s Millions:

Escobar Was Rich

Given that he was the head of a cartel, it should come as no surprise to learn that Escobar was supposed to have been rich. In fact, he was estimated to have had $30 billion in the 1990s, which would be worth around $55 billion in 2016. This means that Escobar was one of the richest people on the planet.

Escobar Concealed Much of His Wealth

Escobar stored his wealth in various ways. For example, he bought luxurious homes, cars, and other vehicles, most of which were confiscated by the government after the confirmation of his death. Furthermore, he is known to have had secret bank accounts, some of which are believed to be irrecoverable because he was the one person who knew their numbers. However, this does not seem to be able to account for the full extent of his wealth, which explains why there is still so much interest in finding his supposed treasure.

The Claim of Treasure Is a Reliable One

Claims of secret treasure tend to be rather dubious to say the least. However, there are convincing reasons to believe that Escobar’s supposed treasure is real. First, his brother Robert Escobar was the one who wrote that he had buried treasure throughout Colombia, Mexico, and the United States, which is believable because Robert had been his accountant. Second, there are reports of people finding some of Escobar’s supposed treasure, with one example being a Colombian farmer who dug up hundreds of barrels of cash while another example was an American homeowner who found a secret safe buried beneath one of the mansions that had belonged to Escobar.

The Former CIA Officers Work with the Original DEA Agents

The two former CIA officers headlining Finding Escobar’s Millions served in the Middle East. However, it is interesting to note that they will be teaming up with some of the DEA agents who were involved in combating Escobar and his cartel. Together, they will be using a combination of both inside information and modern technologies to conduct a search for Escobar’s supposed treasure in various locations.

One Interesting Complication

Unsurprisingly, there are always going to be complications during a search for supposed treasure. However, one of the most interesting complications that comes up for the searchers is Escobar’s popularity in certain parts of Colombia. While Escobar and his cartel were one of the chief causes of soaring crime rates in Colombia throughout that period of time, Escobar was known to cultivate good relations with the poor by building housing as well as other important infrastructure for them. One of the news releases for Finding Escobar’s Millions has already revealed that the searchers had to scale back their search at one location because they had drawn too much attention from the locals living in a neighborhood called Barrio Escobar.
