Brandon Victor Dixon is an actor, singer, and theatrical producer who was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland, on September 23, 1981. He began his career in the entertainment industry in 2003 and is now successful in both theater and television. He is best-known for his performances in musical theatre and he has appeared in many Broadway productions. Although this talented man is well-known in these circles, there are probably many things that you do not know about him. 1. He Is Famous for Playing the Role of Harpo in ‘The Color Purple’
During his career, Dixon has played many exciting and powerful roles. The role for which he is probably most famous is Harpo, a role he created for the 2005 Broadway musical ‘The Color Purple’. His performance in this role was well received by critics and he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He went on to join the touring company for ‘The Color Purple’. Once again, he received excellent reviews from critics for his performances.
2. He Co-Founded WalkRunFly Productions
In 2013, Brandon Dixon Victor co-founded his production company WalkRunFly Productions with Warren Adams, a well-known choreographer. The aim of this production company is to support productions that involve young artists. It was through this production company that Dixon produced Broadway’s ‘Of Mice and Men’ and the award-winning ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’. Since 2017, the production company has two more projects in the pipeline. Currently in development is a Broadway transfer of ‘Whorl Inside a Loop’ and an exciting new musical called ‘Trial of the Century’. The former is a play set in a prison that is co-written by Dick Scanlan and Sherie Rene Scott. The latter is based on the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
3. He Has Won Two Awards
Throughout his career, Brandon Victor Dixon has been nominated for many awards in recognition of his talents as an actor and a producer. So far, he has won two of these nominations, both of which were for ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’, for which he was the producer, and were awarded in 2014. He won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical.
4. He Had a Recurring Role in ‘Power’
Although he is better-known for his work in theatre, Brandon Victor Dixon also has a career in television. During 2017, he had a recurring role on the Starz series ‘Power’. He played the role of an attorney called Terry Silver. When the series returns for season 5 in 2018, he is being promoted to a series regular.
5. He Played Judas Iscariot in the Televised ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’
On Easter Sunday April 1, 2018, a televised concert production of ‘Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ was aired. In this, Brandon Victor Dixon played the role of Judas Iscariot. Others who appeared in this production included John Legend, Norm Lewis, and Sara Bareilles. It was well received by critics.
