Alisha Boe, known for playing Jessica Davis in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, seems destined to be a huge star. Thanks to her portrayal of Jessica, including the highly talked about violent rape scene, she is quickly developing a reputation as one of Hollywood’s brightest rising stars. In April 2017, Alisha, along with Tommy Dorfman and executive producer Selena Gomez, headed to a nearby tattoo parlor. They left with matching semicolon tattoos on their wrist in honor of Project Semicolon, an organization committed to suicide prevention and helping those individuals struggling with mental health issues, addiction, and self-injurious behaviors. A few days later, Brandon Flynn, who portrays Justin on the show also got a semicolon tattoo.
Alisha has experienced a long battle with depression.
In May 2017, Alisha sat down with around 400 University of California: Riverside students to discuss sexual assault in American society. During the event, she revealed, “I’ve dealt with depression my whole life and I’ve had family members who have been suicidal, raped.” She also mentioned that her own battle with depression has helped her better understand what her character is going through.
She was not committed to becoming an actor until she portrayed Michelle from Full House.
Even though the finale of Full House aired before Alisha was even born in 1997, the TGIF sitcom influenced her life. (The finale aired in 1995 for anyone who wants to feel old.) In a 2015 interview, Alisha said that she developed an interest in performing at a young age. For a while she took dance classes before enrolling in an after school acting program that acted out scenes from famous plays or shows. After playing Michelle from Full House, she says, “I came home and told my mom I wanted to be an actor. And that was it.”
She was born more than 5,000 miles away from where 13 Reasons Why is filmed.
While the show is filmed around California’s San Francisco Bay Area, Alisha was born in Oslo, Norway to a Norwegian mother and Somali father in 1997. There are conflicting stories as to when she moved to the United States. In some cases, it is said that she and her mother moved to NYC when she was 4, while others report she and her mom moved to LA when Alisha was 7.
Despite being only 20 years, she has a pretty impressive acting resume.
