Harry Potter might be fine for some kids but for others the content might be a little graphic and perhaps a little scary. There are plenty of movies however that are made to cater to kids and that take it easy on the subject matter, at least in theory. While Harry Potter might get gradually more graphic with each movie a lot of these were designed with kids in mind and as a result are kind of cheesy and even a little corny from an adult perspective but are still pretty entertaining for kids who just want to be entertained and not scared out of their wits.
Though how anyone finds Harry Potter scary is kind of confusing given the content of a lot of kids’ movies these days.
5. Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library
Imagine if you were plunked down in the middle of a library where each book offered a unique and enticing adventure. Now imagine that you have one night to find a way out of the library using the knowledge you possess and the clues that have been left behind and you might get a feel for this movie. While it’s not entirely as dangerous or as dire as Harry Potter it does have that element of risk and random chance.
4. The Secret of Kells
The film centers on a young boy just as it Harry Potter does, but the similarities are more than just this as Brendan is every bit as mischievous and willful as Harry ever was, and yet as a result manages to save the one thing that was so important throughout the movie, the book that is reputed to be able to turn darkness into light. The story is kind of tragic in a way but it does end on a note of triumph.
3. The Water Horse
So apparently the Loch Ness Monster is real, in the movie, and the only reason its been around for so long is that there is only one at a time in any era. The water horse will lay an egg, and then they will pass on, leaving behind a very lonely legacy but one that is still a local legend in Scotland to this day. The water horse is an old legend that many people no longer know, but for one boy back in the 40’s it was a chance at having a friend that needed him and would not run out on him.
2. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
This is a rather old movie that a lot of people don’t even know about at this point unless they were born in the 70’s to possibly the 90’s. It’s one of the more entertaining ones that has come along during its era and one that a lot of people in their fourth or fifth decade of life would recall. Some people swear by this movie and state that it’s one of the best of its kind that was ever created.
1. The Secret Garden
Sometimes the right thing for a dejected spirit isn’t to figure out what’s wrong, but what can be done to make it right. Sounds like the same thing right? Well quite honestly figuring out the problem is nowhere near as important as solving it, as this movie shows how one young girl uses her determination and will to save not only her own life, but that of two others as well.
So if Harry Potter is a little too intense, these should work.
