Fall is finally upon us this year, and what best way to get in the mood for falling leaves and the cooling temperature than watching fall-themed movies. There are literally hundreds to choose from in different genres, so we’ve given you a selection that will hopefully satisfy every palate. Whether they’re stories that focus about the season or just movies that use the season as the main backdrop for their stories, these films are guaranteed to make you want to pull out your sweater in time for sweater weather.
1. Good Will Hunting
Boston in the fall. Smart people falling in love. This is the basic premise of the movie, but we all know it was so much more than that. Matt Damon and Robin Williams gave us their best performances and made us all wish we were just as smart as they were. Good Will Hunting is a story that will warm you up in a different kind of way, the way when you finally realize what you want and go for it. It’s dramatic and simply moving.
2. You’ve Got Mail
Let’s take it back all the way to 1998 when we all heard our computers proclaim that our mailbox had something for us. You’ve Got Mail is all about New York in the fall, one of the best times to be in the city. It’s also quite nostalgic being that it was released in 1998, and although times have changed so much since then, so many things still remain the same. Seeing people walking around with their long coats and high boots on make us want to take an autumn stroll in Central Park.
3. Hocus Pocus
It isn’t made to be scary, but it features one of the best holidays in the fall. Hocus Pocus has it all–comedy, family, magic, witches, good versus evil, and of course, trick or treating. Halloween sets us up for the fall in the best way, and if you’re looking for something to put you in the fall mood without scaring you too much, Hocus Pocus is the best way to go.
4. Halloween
The original still happens to be the best. If you need a good scare to get you in the fall mood, this one will do just the job. Halloween is all about the season, after all, with just the addition of a murderous psychopath to do make it all about the trick and not the treat. It’s the perfect way to snuggle up in a chilly night and also the best way to get you into the Halloween spirit just in time for fall.
5. Rudy
This is yet another classic that’s all about one of the best things about fall: football season. Regardless of whether you’re a football fan or not, Rudy is such an inspirational story that it’ll no doubt give you the good feels. In addition to the storyline, the backdrop of Notre Dame is just stunning in the fall; it’s everything that you’d ever picture for fall to be like and more.
