Five Huge Surprises from This Season’s Twin Peaks

What are five huge surprises from this season’s Twin Peaks, a show that is currently airing on Showtime? The truth is, there are a lot of surprises when it comes to the show. Created and produced by the same individuals that created the original series that aired back in the early 1990s, this is a show that never lacks for surprises. If you get up and walk out of the room for a few minutes, you’re likely to be completely lost when you come back because the show moves at a very fast pace. In addition, there are so many plots and subplots that you don’t dare refrain from paying attention for even a minute, lest you end up wondering what just happened. Below are five of the biggest surprises that have happened so far.

1. People exist in more than one dimension at a time

This definitely makes the show more interesting to watch. It can also add to the confusion if you’re not paying attention. The same characters actually exist in different dimensions simultaneously, and this provides an opportunity for some very surprising plot lines. For example, some of the characters that traditionally would have been considered on the side of good are now playing very bad individuals in this alternate universe. In other words, the writers are allowed to have more fun, not to mention the audience.

2. One of those dimensions takes the audience through a mushroom cloud

That’s right, audiences end up at the nuclear test facilities in White Sands, New Mexico, and they experience a full-on nuclear bomb, complete with the mushroom cloud and all the intensity that goes with it. The whole thing is even set to music from Pink Floyd in order to drive the point home that pretty much anything goes on this show.

3. Don’t forget about Killer BOB

Killer BOB has always been hard to figure out. It turns out that he’s directly connected to that infamous mushroom cloud, and is in fact an evil entity that can shapeshift and move through dimensions of time and space.

4. Aliens are in there somewhere

There are plenty of references to some sort of alien activity, like the strange signals involving Major Briggs, whose face is free-floating through outer space. The confusing part is that there isn’t much explanation regarding where all of this is coming from. Are the aliens evil or are they just watching and waiting for humankind to snuff itself out? Only time will tell.

5. Where does all that evil come from, anyway

This is the kicker. It comes from, you guessed it- mankind. Killer BOB, the mushroom cloud, and just about everything else weird that happens during the show does so because people don’t know how to be nice to each other. All that concentrated evil has to go somewhere, and it seems that most of it has ended up in Twin Peaks.

One thing is certain, anybody that love this show in the nineties is bound to love it today. You might think of it in a similar fashion as the original, but on steroids. It really has the power to come into its own as something completely separate from the original without breaking that lineage between the two. If you haven’t already watched Twin Peaks, it is definitely worth checking out.
