Hawaii is a stunning place, so it is no wonder that it is chosen as the location for many movies. In addition to many famous movies shooting in this setting, there are also television shows who move from their usual filming location for an episode and head to Hawaii. Here are some famous television series that have at least one episode with Hawaii as the theme.
Modern Family
In Season 1 Episode 23 of Modern family, Phil wants to surprise Claire by giving her the wedding and honeymoon of her dreams while on vacation in Hawaii. They couldn’t have the wedding they wanted first-time round because Claire was pregnant with Haley. The episode was first shown on ABC on May 12, 2010, and 10.335 million viewers tuned in to watch this episode. Although Phil and Claire renewing their vows is the main story of the ‘Hawaii’ episode, there are other storylines running alongside this; Michelle and Cameron fall out about sightseeing, Jay wants to relax but has to work out instead, and Haley gets drunk.
The Brady Bunch
The Brady Bunch was set in Hawaii for three episodes. Mike is sent to work on a building project in Honolulu and the rest of the family go with him. While in Honolulu, the boys find an Idol. The locals are superstitious of this and believe it is cursed. The boys begin to worry that it will bring them bad luck and this will only stop if they return the Idol to where they found it. These episodes were first aired on ABC in 1972.
Charlie’s Angels
Charlie’s Angels, a series aired on ABC, is filmed in Hawaii in two separate seasons. In 1977, Charlie is kidnapped and taken to Hawaii. The Angels race to his rescue in this exciting episode. The episode was written by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts. The second time Charlie’s Angels is filmed in Hawaii is in 1980. On this occasion, Charlie’s Angels move their headquarters to Hawaii for five full episodes.
I Dream of Jeannie
Between 1967 and 1968, there were three episodes of this NBC TV series that had Hawaii as the theme. In the first of these, Major Anthony Nelson and Jeannie go to Honolulu for business. In this episode, a con artist attempts to swindle them. The following year, this TV show returns to Waikiki for a two-part episode that is unrelated to the first trip to Hawaii. Nelson and Jeannie are joined in Hawaii by Major Roger Healey. The Ilikai Hotel & Luxury Suites feature in all three episodes that were filmed in Hawaii.
Growing Pains
Growing pains was a television show aired on ABC from 1985 to 1992. In the first two episodes of season 3, the Siever family take a trip to Hawaii. The episodes were called ‘Aloha (Part 1)’ and ‘Aloha (Part 2)’. The holiday does not go as planned but Carol and Mike enjoy a holiday romance. Both episodes were aired for the first time on September 18, 1987.
