You don’t hear a lot from Catherine Zeta-Jones these days but back in the day she was known for being one of the most gorgeous women onscreen. She could pull her weight when it came to being funny or just amusing as well, though often she was called upon to be a serious and upstanding actor that knew how to turn men on and play a very authentic role that could be looked upon as something rather unique. Unfortunately after a while she came to do the same thing over and over, the same look, the same act, and the same, well, everything. She’s still one of the better actor’s to come around throughout the past few decades but if she does come back into the limelight, and there’s no doubt she’ll be around for a while, then it might be best to change things up just a bit.
She’s good, but she needs to push her boundaries just a little.
5. The Mask of Zorro
Being an accomplished swordswoman in this movie was kind of important, though being able to just hold your own for a scene was pretty impressive too. The whole comedic portion of the scene had to do with the fact that she and Zorro were so evenly matched that he had to resort to tricks to finally beat her. Plus, he did get a little bit of play into the fight as well. Her top didn’t just fall off after all.
4. The Terminal
Her role as a flighty and very flaky flight attendant was one that seemed very unlike any of her other roles and painted her in a light that was less than favorable. So many people wanted to see her end up with Victor but the sad part of this is that a flight attendant leads a very busy life and some of them don’t see the value in attaching themselves to any one person.
3. Ocean’s Twelve
What’s funny about this part is that she’s bold, she’s confident, and she has every reason to be. Her character was hurt by one of Ocean’s 11 long ago and has never fully forgiven him for that. However when she is pitted directly against them when a master thief starts messing with the 11, it comes down to just who can run the best long-con and how committed each of them are to their respective roles.
2. The Haunting
Theo is the material girl that seems like she might not have a brain in her head unless whatever you’re talking about has to do with fashion. Of course that just makes her more charming to men that seem to like the flash and don’t bother with the substance. Her slightly vapid character in this movie continually tries to hit on Eleanor only to finally realize that Eleanor really isn’t into it.
1. Chicago
Chicago is one of those movies in which you really need to be into the genre to fully understand and appreciate. The characters are well-developed and the plot is easy enough to follow but if you’re not a song and dance person you might be flipping the channel. Of course then you might miss one heck of a show.
If she makes it back to the same level she left it’d be a pleasure to see her in action again.
