Finding any genuine April Fool’s moments in movies is kind of like trying to peek through a wheat field to find individual stalks, but at the very least there are a few movies that seem to have the spirit of April Fool’s Day down when it comes to their sense of humor. So instead of finding individual scenes about the day in question it seems like more fun to go ahead and treat the reader to a few films that might be great to watch this coming Sunday when the day of fools is upon us.
There are a lot of them, but these are some of the best when it comes to psych out and fools.
5. White Chicks
When two FBI agents have to protect two rich, snotty young women that won’t go anywhere because of an emergency zit problem they have to find a way to make sure that no one suspects anything is up. Of course in moviespeak that means that they have to do something wild and crazy, and dressing up as white women would definitely fall into that category. The only problem now would be getting anyone outside of the movie to believe that they actually resemble the two young women they were supposed to be protecting.
4. 50 First Dates
This movie seems like it would be one of the ultimate April Fool’s day gags if only the condition that Lucy had wasn’t real. It would be a frustrating time for anyone that tried to form a relationship with a person that couldn’t remember them the next day. But if you’ve ever watched it you might have noticed that some women do tend to ask their husbands/ boyfriends if they would show this kind of dedication if they were to suffer from such a condition.
3. The Jones’s
The American dream looks pretty good when it’s all your paid to sell. If people realized what was beneath all the glitz and glamour they might not be too impressed but one the outside is where most people are looking so it’s safe to say that the ruse would work. Of course it probably doesn’t work as well when the people involved start to actually care about each other. I wonder if that would count as an occupational hazard.
2. Tommy Boy
I get the feeling that in the real world an entire SWAT team would have been called out and Tommy Boy would have been looking down the barrels of a good number of weapons before he managed to get outside. Even if that wasn’t the case he’d still be in some deep, deep trouble for initiating a bomb scare even if they were just road flares. Ah but in simpler times things like this didn’t raise eyebrows.
1. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
This is the ultimate April Fool’s movie since it’s such a classic and it’s basically about a kid thumbing his nose at authority for much of the movie and doing exactly what he wants. It’s a great movie though, and something definitely worthy of the day.
It’s the one day you’re better off not trusting what anyone says unless you can prove it right or wrong.
