One thing we know is going to be dominating television today is the NFL playoffs. Good luck to the other networks in getting good ratings tonight. It’s just not going to happen when you have the kind of matchups that you’re going to see today. The first one we’re going to discuss is the Atlanta Falcons vs. The Green Bay Packers.
The Falcons have had yet another stellar season under Matt Ryan as quarterback. Julio Jones continues to be a top 3 receiver. Devonta Freeman is holding the backfield well, and Taylor Gabriel has emerged as a legitimate threat in the Falcons offense. Pretty amazing considering he was picked up off waivers in September of 2016. How about them Packers though?
The Green Bay Packers are looking strikingly similar to their 2011 championship team when everything came together at the right time. Teams should be very scared of a team that’s clicking on all cylinders at just the right time. Speaking of which, Aaron Rodgers is performing at an other worldly level right now despite losing his best receiver Jordy Nelson to broken ribs. It hasn’t mattered at all. Rodgers is finding receivers whenever he wants, and however he wants thanks to an offensive line that appears to be giving him an hour to throw on every snap. I don’t see defense playing a factor in this one despite both teams having formidable lineups on the defensive end.
Just going by history here, Matt Ryan hasn’t really been a winner in big games and going up against a super hot Aaron Rodgers you’d be hard pressed to pick the Falcons to win this one. There’s a different flare to the Falcons this season so I’m not giving up on them yet, but I just don’t think you can bet against Aaron Rodgers in this one. Should be a great game though. I think Rodgers tops 300 yards, gets 4 TDs, 0 INTs and shreds the Falcons defense.
