Although the battle royale mode has taken the gaming world by storm, Fortnite’s “Save The World” mode remains a fan favorite, consistently receiving updates from Epic Games. Originally envisioned as the core of the game, Save The World has been somewhat overshadowed by the immense popularity of Battle Royale. However, the recent release of Fortnite Save The World v5.40, alongside Fortnite Battle Royale v5.40, brings a plethora of exciting additions to the game mode. In a rare move, Epic Games has provided patch notes for the update, giving players a detailed look at what’s new in Fortnite Save The World v5.40.
Revamped Missions & Systems
Among the most notable changes in the update are the new missions and systems. Horde Weekly Challenge 5 is now available, featuring buff Husks that are difficult to defeat and knock players back with powerful force. Completing the challenge for the first time rewards players with 1500 Gold, and the challenge is repeatable for Event Tickets.
New Mega Alerts have been added to all group missions, combining Elemental Storms with Mutant Storm modifiers and a Miniboss. These alerts grant considerably higher rewards than normal Mission Alerts, including XP, evolution materials, perk materials, schematics, and survivors. Players can earn these rewards three times every 24 hours.
Ride The Lightning and Launch The Rocket missions now use direction-based spawning, changing the direction from which enemies approach at each stage. Additionally, Epic Games has implemented compensation for missing mission rewards, granting players hero/schematic/survivor XP, evolution materials, perk materials, and gold based on their account progression. Affected players will also receive a complimentary Smorgasbord Llama, which can be opened from the Loot tab.
Other changes include increased Gold rewards for Main Canny Valley Act 1 Quests, updated rewards for Canny Valley and Twine Peaks Quests, and reduced difficulty for normal missions in Plankerton, Canny, and Twine.
Performance Enhancements
The update also brings a variety of performance improvements, such as optimizations to reduce hitching when another player joins a game in progress, improvements to the Particle System and Sound performance in Death Burst modifier zones, and optimized performance of the Shielder and Super Shielder. Instant hit weapons performance has also been improved, particularly for weapons with high rates of fire and impact damage.
Several optimizations have been made to mission tracking, server application of death effects, network traffic, terrain and object draw distances, and UI performance. These changes aim to improve overall gameplay experience and reduce performance issues.
New Heroes and Bug Fixes
Harvester Fiona, a new look for the Husk Harvester Ninja, is now available in the Event Store. The update also addresses numerous bugs, such as issues with Phased and Confused, Kunai barrage tooltip, Up The Voltage tooltip, Energized not applying to Shock Tower, and Static Cling dealing incorrect damage types and lasting longer than intended.
Weapons & Items Adjustments
The durability of the Grenade Launcher, Blooper, and Thumper has been increased by 65%. Bug fixes include the Snowball Launcher and Easter Egg Launcher consuming more durability than intended, Bundlebuss taking up backpack space, and Hitstreak Explosion perk properly damaging enemies when triggered.
Gameplay and UI Improvements
Several gameplay bugs have been fixed, such as issues preventing players from progressing past the tutorial cinematic, dropped items auto-picking up, and rockets not doing full damage to Super Shielder shields and the environment. In the UI, players can now slot higher starred versions of Schematics in the Collection Book, and various UI bugs have been addressed.
Art & Animation Updates
RAY’s dialog volume has been increased, and numerous sound and music issues have been fixed, such as music retriggering during Smasher intro, multiple tracks playing in the Lobby, and music not playing in the Main Menus.
Overall, Fortnite Save The World v5.40 is a massive update that brings a wealth of new content, improvements, and bug fixes to the game mode. It’s clear that Epic Games remains committed to supporting Save The World and ensuring that players continue to enjoy this beloved aspect of Fortnite.
