Good news? Euphoria has been renewed for another season. Bad news? We need to say goodbye to one of our most beloved characters.
Euphoria is one of HBO’s greatest hit shows of the decade. But it’s also every parent’s nightmare. It follows a group of teenagers as they try to navigate their complicated family dynamics and their even more terrifying teenage problems. From love and friendship to drug use and violence, Euphoria shows raw human experiences and depicts realistic aspects of teenage years.
It’s no wonder the show is coming back to small screens with the third season and new exciting twists. So, what do we know about it so far? Here’s everything you should know about Euphoria season 3.
Is Euphoria season 3 official?
Given the fact that the second season was as successful as the first one right off the bat, HBO gave the viewers what they wanted. Euphoria was renewed for the third season already on February 2022. The streaming service took it to Twitter and said, “#EUPHORIA has been renewed for season 3.”
Francesca Orsi, who is HBO’s Executive Vice President of programming, added: “Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken Season 2 to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form while maintaining its heart.” She said, “We couldn’t be more honored to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into Season 3.”
When will Euphoria season 3 premiere?
Even though the third season of the show is very much official, we still don’t know the exact release date yet. Unfortunately, filming hasn’t even begun yet, so we’re probably going to have to wait at least one more year to see our favorite show again. The show is likely to come back to little screens in 2023 or 2024.
Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another two years to watch Euphoria 3 since COVID19 restrictions have been loosened. On another hand, with the show’s cast becoming increasingly popular, their increasingly busy schedules are becoming another barrier to the show.
As you probably know, Zendaya is to appear in Dune’s sequel while Hunter Schafer is filming the Hunger Games prequel. While we’re excited to see this talented cast elsewhere, we’re hoping they’ll bless us with their Euphoria roles for at least two more seasons.
Who is in the cast?
With Euphoria cast ruling Hollywood this season, we can’t help ourselves but wonder: Who will be in the cast of season 3? So far, we know that most key crew members will come back to reprise their iconic roles.
Zendaya (the only confirmed return), Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Nika King, Austin Abrams, and Storm Reid are all likely to be back, but we’re yet to get a confirmation from HBO on this. When it comes to season 2 newbies such as Dominic Fike and Chloe Cherry, there’s no news about them so far.
But as you probably already heard, one key member of the initial cast is not coming back for season 3. And that’s Barbie Ferreira. The actress announced her departure in an Instagram story, saying that she’s, unfortunately, saying goodbye to the show. Here’s what she had to say, “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character, Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye.”
Right after the news about Barbie’s departure, rumors about Alexa Demie have also started swirling around social media. Some Twitter users speculated that she has also been dropped from season 3 due to backstage issues. For now, there’s been no official update about Alexa’s return, so fingers crossed we’ll get to see more of Maddie’s story in the following season.
What will the new season be about?
For now, HBO hasn’t revealed anything about the upcoming season’s plot. It will probably continue where the second season left off. Fez is likely to face prison, which will probably affect his relationship with Lexi. On another hand, we’re anxious to see how the story unfolds for Rue and Jules. There’s also the love triangle between Maddy, Nate, and Cassie, but another potential one with Rue, Jules, and Elliot.
The more we reflect on season 2, the more excited we are about season 3! One thing’s for sure, Euphoria keeps on taking us on emotional rollercoasters, and we’re here for it.
