Everything We Know about the Sequel to The Collector

The Collection movie poster

You would almost think the Collector and The Collection would be creepy enough, but it would appear that fans are getting what they want since according to John Squires of Bloody Disgusting the movie is coming back for another installment that is bound to be just as nerve-rending as the first two and possibly even more bloodcurdling since if the first two movies were that spine-tingling then you know the third one has to pull out every last stop. One might wonder how it’s going to happen since the Collector was locked inside a trunk after having his fingers mashed by Arkin and therefore kind of rendered unable to fight, but if you’ve learned anything about horror movies throughout the years then you should know there’s always a twist in their somewhere that’s going to accommodate the unexpected and give fans the kind of fright they’re seeking regardless of how it might not make sense or will so casually defy the laws of reality. If there’s a way it’s going to be found, count on that.

Christian Long at ComingSoon.net has made it pretty clear that there aren’t any details that are forthcoming at the moment but it does seem fair to guess that since the Collector was slammed in a trunk that either Arkin is going to take up the mantle, which seems unlikely, or we might get an origin story that will show how the Collector became the twisted individual that he is. The only reason for saying this of course is due to how the second movie ended and the improbability of Arkin being foolish enough to let the Collector get the drop on him. It’s a horror movie and things such as this happen obviously, but it’s also the kind of situation we’ve seen played out in too many movies, the hero leaves the killer alone just long enough so that the killer can find a way around their current circumstances and either escape or kill the hero and go back to what they were doing. It does seem kind of odd that a killer who takes so much time and effort to create such intricate and deadly traps wouldn’t bother to come up with an escape plan for every eventuality, but then of course there are variables that not even the most skilled tactician can think around since life tends to throw a wrench in the works every so often when people think they have everything mapped out.

Jacob Dressler from ScreenGeek is right in saying that it’s a special time to be a fan of this particular movie since this is the tenth anniversary of its release and fans are at this moment stoked to hear that there’s going to be another movie coming out eventually. Most fans would agree that once a movie is found that tickles their fancy they don’t want to let it go and if there’s room to expand on it they want to see as many sequels as can be feasibly made without screwing up the story or the continuity that goes on between the original and the sequels. Being a fan tends to mean that people are either going to get up in arms if things change in even the slightest way, or will embrace the movie no matter if it has massive flaws that need to be ironed out. Fans tend to stick by their favorites quite regularly as a lot of us have come to realize over the years and despite how disturbing these movies have managed to get that’s all the better for horror fans since they’re ready and willing to embrace another movie that might up the ante a bit and really dive into the gore headfirst.

If you’re wondering whether or not this has any relation to the Saw movies you’d be spot on, kind of, since it was mentioned that the idea was to make this a prequel of sorts to those movies. But obviously it was left to its own devices and that’s probably best since to be honest while the devilish traps that are set throughout the movies are enough to make people scream and widen their eyes in anticipation you can’t help but think that the whole collection aspect of it is something that even Jigsaw might fin distasteful, and this is a guy that creates traps that torture people in numerous ways to make them ‘atone’. The Collector is simply killing people and chopping them up for his collection. It’s going to be interesting to see what lies ahead for a third movie and what the creator will possibly do to keep the same level of intensity or possibly increase it as the movie goes along. In some respects it almost seems as though it should be an origin movie, but we’ll have to wait and see.
