According to Padraig Cotter of ScreenRant the Eric Andre Show is still making its way towards a season 5, but it’s taking its sweet time about it. For some this show has been little more than a chaotic jumble of laughs that come from a dark, gritty sense of humor that a lot of people might not get but many more do and have found to be hilarious. It’s all a matter of perception when it comes to comedy after all and while some might find Eric Andre as kind of an oddball character others tend to revere and adore him in a way that borders on idol worship. It’s true that he is a funny guy and does come up with some edgy and sometimes very over the top material but it’s also true that comedy has changed quite a bit over the years and the stuff that might have been banned only a couple of decades ago is now seemingly commonplace.
Even Mindy Bonds from The Culture Files isn’t able to really piece together what’s been going on as far as season 5 goes as Eric and the rest of his crew seem to be playing it a bit cagey in response to people wanting to know just what they’re doing. This could have a lot to do with the fact that the more people learn about show or a movie these days the more they tend to theorize that they know exactly what’s going on and what they’re going to expect. Of course a lot of theories get proven wrong without fail once the programs come back and most people don’t worry about it. But it’s when someone guesses correctly or somehow finds out because of a slip or an intentional reveal that shows like this tend to falter just a bit since the surprise is a big part of the whole show. Unless the showrunners want the audience to know what’s coming in advance then it’s a serious breach that occurs when too much information is given out. Some shows like to tease people by saying very little or showing something that may or may not be featured in the upcoming program. So far Eric and those he works with have shown a few things since season 4 but there’s no way to know just yet whether or not some of this material will show up in season 5, or if they’re doing something else, or if they’re just goofing around.
What is known is something that fans have already discovered about the Eric Andre show, and that’s the fact that it’s going to be wild, crazy, a bit dark and nutty, and well beyond what we remember watching as younger folks. Think about it, back in the day when some of the comedians that are now getting older were first showing up on the scene we had no idea what to expect and the kind of comedy they unloaded on us was something that our parents almost universally denied us at times since it was considered to be too edgy. Language was the big issue, but it was also the adult content that so many comedians spewed forth since it wasn’t taboo for adults to hear it, though it was still considered bad taste at times for comedians to push the boundaries of what society would accept.
There’s no set date as to when the show will be released as of now, and trying to find out anything more about it is kind of difficult since no one is talking and it would seem that those involved are busy doing other things at this time. That could be real or that could be a cover since obviously they don’t want people knowing too much about the next season since it does sound as though it’s going to happen. The internet has become a haven for those that want to spread rumor and gossip about anything and everything they can get their hands on since information is power in some regards and it’s simply enough to get the leg up on other people when it comes to various shows and movies that might be coming out. You might be rolling your eyes and thinking that this isn’t a big deal to many people but try talking to fans of anything and you might be in for a rude awakening.
So yes, the show is coming back, it just hasn’t been decided as to when, and there’s no idea of what the content will be when it does manage to get back on the air. At the moment though it would seem that Eric is quite busy doing other things so it’s not as though he’s sitting idly by and just waiting for the right moment. The show will come back, just breathe.
