There are times when you have to go where you have to go where you have the best chance to flourish. It’s pretty common really, but there are times when it brings one’s loyalty to another person, company, or fan base into question. The important thing to remember at that point is that most of the time it’s about business and how to keep it flowing. It’s not always about loyalty or who thinks that this or that person is selling out. It’s about getting the product to the people in the best way possible. That is one of the several things that is prompting Emmy-winner Shonda Rhimes to take her production company, Shondaland, to Netflix in a multi-year deal.
Considered to be one of the greatest storytellers of the current age, Rhimes is excited about the move to Netflix and they are excited to have her. The passion and creativity she brings to each one of her projects is a major lift that Netflix could use at the current moment as Disney is set to pull away and take a great deal of content with it. The creator of such hits as Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal should have no issue coming over to the streaming service, where her innovative spark should be given the freedom it needs to shine.
More and more people are starting to see the value of streaming TV, which is commercial-free and is allowed to make up for this by pushing forth more and more shows that people want to watch and, in some cases, get addicted to. The numbers for Netflix are definitely greater than any other streaming service and in terms of original content Netflix tops them all. In many ways Netflix has become the place to be for both viewers and those that wish to spread their desired content around to the many viewers that might enjoy it.
Rhimes is set and determined to bring her style of storytelling to Netflix, and she should be able to do so without much of a problem as she has already proven that she can create something that people love. The only roadblock she might face, and it is a minor one really, is that Netflix has become a haven for so many new and upcoming series and shows that the competition is bound to be fierce. Those at Netflix whom she’s been working to bring this deal into play have faith in her however, and so should the rest of us.
After all if she could get so many people to love Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy, two of the most talked-about series to ever hit the masses, then coming to Netflix where she’s free to do what she wants and develop a story in the manner she desires should be a thing of ease.
It’s going to be interesting to see what she comes up with and what we can expect from her in the years ahead. Likely as not it will be something great.
