You might have wondered what the host of Jeopardy!, Alex Trebek, is really like for a while, and you may or may not be surprised to learn that he’s not a bad guy but he also seems like a person that’s a little too cultured for others. In essence he’s an intelligent man that likes to hang around other intelligent people which is easy to understand. One thing you can say though above everything is that he’s dedicated to the show and has been for quite some time. He’s been hosting Jeopardy! since 1984, when a lot of us were still growing up and probably couldn’t even follow the show yet let alone think of the answers. The man is in his mid to late-70’s now and is still doing the show, which tells you that he either loves being here or hasn’t found anything else to do. My vote would be for the former.
He’s not entirely humble but he’s not such a straight up jerk that he won’t talk to people. During commercial breaks he takes the time to answer questions from the audience that are usually met by polite laughter since he’s pretty frank with folks. He’s not mean about it and he doesn’t intend to make people feel stupid. But if someone asks a foolish question he might give them a look or answer in a way that turns the question back on them. Wise and cultured would be a better way to describe Trebek than anything, though apparently he’s more than just a game show host since he admits to being pretty hand around his own home.
From the things he talks about doing such as electric, plumbing, drywalling, painting, etc., he’s a very handy guy to have around. He doesn’t believe in working out apparently but manages to stay in good shape just from the work that he does around his home, which would make sense. Some people don’t like to sit still and are always doing something either because they need to or want to. Trebek almost strikes me as the kind of guy that needs something to do when he’s on his down time just to keep himself busy and occupied.
He’s also fairly old school since when someone asked him if he had a favorite app he said that no he did not and he liked to use his phone in a very revolutionary manner. He makes a call, he answers a call, and that’s it. I’m betting he really confused some of the younger viewers with this answer since it seems like a phone is used to do anything but make a phone call these days.
The cool thing is that Trebek has no plans at this time to retire. He wants to keep hosting the show until he’s no longer able, meaning he’s making too many mistakes or is too infirm to successfully complete his duties. That alone shows that he’s the kind of guy that any show would be fortunate to see stick around for so long.
