He Planned to Become a Professor
Entertainment was not where Powell expected to end up. Initially, he was planning to become a professor. To be exact, he was planning to become a professor specializing on the New Testament, which explains why he was so interested in Greek as well as Philosophy. In fact, it is interesting to note that Powell is actually capable of speaking Greek in a fluent manner, which is no mean achievement.
Decided to Become an Entertainer Because of a Talent Show
Powell got the idea to get into entertainment because of his participation in a talent show, where he showed off his singing as well as his dancing skills. As a result, one of his friends insisted that he make the most of his skills, with the result that Powell decided to move to Los Angeles along with his wife to give a musical career a shot.
Founding Member of Anthem Lights
In Los Angeles, Powell met up with Chad Graham, who was someone he had known from high school. As the two started to collaborate on musical matters, they realized that what they were producing would be much better-suited to a group rather than a solo artist, with the result that they got in touch with two friends from college. In this manner, Anthem Lights was born, resulting in a Christian pop rock band that remains active in the present. However, Powell is no longer a member of Anthem Lights because of his decision to focus on his acting career.
Started Acting Because of The Song
When he was still with Anthem Lights, Powell was contacted about an audition for a movie called The Song, which was centered around a singer-songwriter struggling to balance his success with his family. After reading the script, Powell felt that the story resonated with him, which is why he gave the audition a shot. As it turned out, he landed the lead role in The Song, which in turn, resulted in a fair bit of positive press for him from a wide range of sources once the movie was released. Something that convinced him to start pursuing an acting career in earnest.
Married to His High School Sweetheart
As stated earlier, Powell was married when he moved out to Los Angeles. In fact, he was married to his high school sweetheart Brycie, who he became interested in after he heard her sing at their school. Nowadays, the two have a family consisting of not just them but also their three daughters.
