The Isekai anime genre had a successful run in 2023, especially with audiences’ anticipation for The Eminence in Shadow season 3. Since the series premiered on October 5, 2022, The Eminence in Shadow has attracted millions of new and old Isekai anime fans to the genre. The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Ending
The Eminence in Shadow season 2 penultimate episode set the stage for revealing the plot twist. Perv and Rose’s wedding ends with Mordred beheading Perv and Queen Reina. After which, Mordred activated the Black Rose to destroy Oriana by summoning the Archdemon Ragnarok. The episode ended with Cid, as Lord Shadow, severing Ragnarok’s arm.
Season 2 finale, Mordred is defeated and reveals what the cult had always known. Not only are there alternate dimensions, but they can collide temporarily every few millennia. It explained how their dimension has both magic and humans and how Diabolos was created from a human test subject. With this knowledge of other dimensions, Black Rose was created as an artificial gateway.
After Cid kills Ragnarok, he also kills Mordred with an atomic explosion. However, the explosion was so large that it ripped and collapsed Black Rose. The Eminence in Shadow season 2 ends with Cid being sucked into another dimension, revealed to be Earth. Although Cid is back on Earth, it is in a post-apocalyptic era. Demons from another dimension had entered and destroyed Earth. Akane Nishino is also revealed to be grown and now a knight. Cid arrives on Earth in time to rescue her from her cybernetically enhanced thug kidnappers. A classic end to the season is Cid proclaiming himself as Lord Shadow on Earth.
What Could The Eminence in Shadow Season 3 Be About?
Like many anime series before and after, The Eminence in Shadow is adapted from a Japanese light novel. As such, it is easy to know where season 3 is headed. However, a few anime series sometimes significantly deviate from their light novel/manga source materials. The Eminence in Shadow season 2 ended with Cid returning to Earth (one of the greatest Isekai plot twists of the genre). The Eminence in Shadow season 3 is bound to be set on Earth.
With most of Earth destroyed by demons, Cid has his hands full to protect and rid his former home from demons. Besides, since season 2 ended with Cid declaring himself Lord Shadow on Earth, there will be no shortage of action in season 3. Also, Shadow Garden is fully aware of Black Rose as an artificial gateway to other dimensions. There’s a lot that can be explored with that storyline. Cid’s return to Earth also introduced a mature Akane Nishino, now a knight known as Savior.
Will There Be The Eminence in Shadow Season 3?
As of July 2024, no official announcement about The Eminence in Shadow season 3 has been announced. However, just as season 2 was about to wrap up in December 2023, a follow-up anime film, The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes, was announced in the same month. As exciting as the announcement was at the time, it seems to have overshadowed season 3’s production. A release date for The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes has not been confirmed, but there are indications it will be released in the Fall of 2024.
Although there have been polarized opinions on The Eminence in Shadow season 3, there’s hope for a release. Much of the future of season 3 will depend on the storyline and direction the anime will take. However, it is important to note the popularity and support that light novels, manga, and anime series have received in the past few years. Since the manga series is still being produced, there’s a lot of story to incorporate in season 3. Although The Eminence in Shadow season 3 is yet to be greenlit for production, unconfirmed reports put its release date as fall 2025. While audiences official confirmations of The Eminence in Shadow season 3, Fire Force season 3 has been confirmed as the final season and will be released in two parts in April 2025.
