10 Things You Never Knew about Dragon Ball’s Android 18

Dragon Ball is known for having tough characters and Android 18 is one of the absolute toughest around since she’s gone up against some of the hardest characters in the series and turned out okay. But for all that she’s had a rather tough time of it since she’s been a villain turned decent person that’s maybe a step away from being a hero. Her story arc has definitely hit an interesting point but it’s not enough to call her a hero just yet. Still, she’s proven that she can change and that’s been a positive thing in the Dragon Ball world with a lot of characters. From being a murderous android to a mother and wife is a pretty huge transition, but she’s done it and made it look quite feasible thanks to the writers. In many ways Android 18 is one of the toughest characters in the series, but not THE toughest.

Here are a few things you might not have known about her.

10. She’s been stopped a few times.

Stopped as in killed that is. One thing you can assume with every Dragon Ball character is that at one point or another in their tenure they’re going to be beaten up, pummeled into the ground, or killed. Thanks to time-traveling and other means death isn’t as big of an impediment as it really should be at times. Her total number of deaths comes up to three at this point.

9. She was turned into an android by force.

She and her brother, Android 17, were abducted and experimented on against their will, which is something that only real, diehard fans might know since Dragon Ball tends to leave out a lot of back story. But despite their powers and insane durability they were both born to human parents.

8. She was absorbed by Cell.

Cell was designed to be the absolute best fighter that had the powers of just about every Z fighter alive and could vanquish pretty much anyone. 18 and her brother 17 fought as hard as they could, but in the end they too were sucked up by Cell’s insanely powerful tail.

7. She had to watch her brother get beaten.

To be honest she’s had to watch him die three times, and every time it seemed unavoidable since he was killed by Cell, then by Goku, and then he killed himself to save Vegeta and Goku. Time travel is very prominent in Dragon Ball but it’s kind of hard having to watch your sibling die over and over again.

6. She was part of the effort to stop the future Gohan.

In another timeline she and her brother were absolutely ruthless and had left the world bereft of any skilled fighters save for Trunks and Gohan. Unfortunately 17 killed Gohan and she didn’t lift a finger to stop him.

5. She’s stronger than a super saiyan.

Up until the moment that 18 and 17 were set loose to wreak havoc it was believed that super saiyans were the most powerful beings in the universe. They certainly proved that this image was worth spreading since Goku and Vegeta were among the most powerful of characters in the entire series. But the androids beat Vegeta so easily it was almost laughable.

4. She was eaten by Majin Bu.

Don’t ask how this happened since it’s tough to explain unless you’re one of the writers. But Bu actually turned a bunch of the Z fighters into candy and then simply ate them. Being sucked up by Cell’s tail was bad enough, but at least he didn’t turn anyone into an edible snack.

3. She’s messed up multiple timelines.

Unless they become redemptive the androids are simple engines of chaos that go about doing what they want to pretty much whoever they want. They don’t have a lot of remorse, if any, while going about this and the way that they simply bulldoze through anyone in their way is absolutely terrifying.

2. She fused with her brother.

Thankfully for her this wasn’t canon but was instead used for a 3DS game that used fusion as a means for two fighters to come together and become even more powerful. Unfortunately it meant that one’s personality would be added to the other person’s, which in the case of the androids was unfortunate since 18 was constantly annoyed by her brother’s rather immature behavior sometimes.

1. She’s had to deal with Goku.

Goku is supposed to be liked since he’s the main protagonist and the guy that everyone looks to when things are about to go down. But while she was originally meant to kill him 18 now gives him the occasional disapproving glare since there are times when she really can’t stand his antics. Other than that, she does tolerate him.

Out of all the characters in Dragon Ball the androids are two of those that are extremely and insanely powerful and yet are able to be taken down if they let their guard down for even a second.
