Double Dare is Coming Back to Nickelodeon in Summer 2018

There’s not a shortage of nostalgia going around in the world today with all the reboots and remakes happening each year. From movies to TV shows, it seems that everything from the past is coming back to redeem themselves or that everyone just wants to see stories continue on after being in hiatus for so long. That’s certainly not the case when it comes to Nickelodeon’s Double Dare, as it prepares to make a comeback this year with what’s already been ordered as 40 episodes off the bat.

The game show has no stories to retell, no futures to finish. Double Dare was just a game show that everyone loved back then. It was simple, fun, and completely entertaining. What would be interesting is how the network will approach the changes in the show. We’ll find out how much they change about the aspect of the game once it comes in the summer. But for now, we’re told that the revival will look back on the past just a little, featuring appearances from recognizable faces. We’ll get to see some stars in Double Dare action it seems like.

Double Dare premiered on Nickelodeon in 1986. The game show featured two teams that competed for prizes by completing various challenges, performing stunts, answering trivia questions, and of course, completing the ultimate obstacle course that consisted of the human hamster wheel, a couple of other obstacles, and finally the Double Dare nose. This show was an instant favorite back then, and this was long before the time of today’s obstacle course shows such as American Ninja Warrior.

This game show was Nickelodeon’s longest running show of its kind. It aired from 1986 to 1993, a solid six years of entertainment. Double Dare has had reboots and various iterations since including the 2016 special Double Dare Reunion. Reunion celebrated the show’s 30th anniversary. We gather that there was enough response from the Reunion to garner a complete reboot, and we’re sure that the show will have no problems picking up fans from the younger demographic of today.

Marc Summers, Double Dare’s original host, has yet to comment on whether he will be reprising his role for this summer’s show. He was last seen doing executive producer work fro a few TV series, so we’re not sure if Summers will come back in front of the camera again to host. It’ll sure be the cherry on the top to see him back in his old post. However, we wouldn’t mind a fresh, new face and voice to guide us through this Double Dare reboot. It can be the Double Dare of this generation, and we honestly believe that’s a bigger sell than anything.

Nickelodeon is planning a whole slew of reboots in the upcoming years including Melissa Joan Hart’s Clarissa Explains It All and Blue’s Clues. Hart will be reprising her character’s role, which will now be older and in a different family situation altogether (she’ll have her own kids now). It was rumored at some point that John Cena might take on the role of Steve from Blue’s Clues, but that turned out to be just a marketing joke. Nickelodeon has a lot ahead of it, and we’re definitely looking forward to it all.
