A very common practice in business is to own as many domain names with a likeness to your domain name as possible. So if you’re Apple you don’t want to just own Apple.com, you want to own Apple.net, Apple.gov, and all of the other suffixes. You also might want to consider owning domain names where a person makes a typing mistake. Or you could consider owning a domain name that has a phrase with your company name it it like “Appleisthebest.com”
But when it comes to our current President, his company dug a little bit deeper in its domain search. Turns out that CNN has scoured the records of Trump’s digital holdings, and they don’t so much reveal anything new about Trump as illustrate his corporation’s infantile style of power-branding. The domains show possible ventures into continued chintzy “luxury life.” Here are some samples:

They also own a ton that constitute defenses against possible negative branding, which are equally (or more!) illustrative of the way the Trumps think of their own business:

- TrumpScam.com
- ImBeingSuedByTheDonald.com

While some may defend this as common practice among businesses I think it’s safe to say that there’s something a little off about Trump’s brand. When you’re buying domains like this in bulk it means you assume that others assume you’re in some illegal dealings or at least shady dealings. So if you’re looking to cash in on a Trump domain you at least have a starter list of addresses to stay away from. Too bad some guy in a hut in Bora Bora doesn’t own Donaldtrumpsucks.com. That would be pretty awesome.
