Dig Season 1 Episode 9 Review: “Jehoshaphat”

Dig

The penultimate episode of Dig picks up right where last week left off, with all of the saviors in dangerously precarious positions. With only one more episode before the finale, one main character will not make it out alive to stop Armageddon.

Golan wakes up locked in the trunk of his car, trying to get back to his partner. Peter, as we know, was a little busy getting shot. He and Emma know by now they are not captives, and their new friend tells them that Peter did not accidentally walk into this conspiracy. Peter is patched up and sent on his way. He later plays a game with himself he calls “Bible Roulette” and reads a passage written by Peter which seems to ominously suggest that he does indeed have a destiny and must be vigilant in the hours ahead. In the meantime, Golan goes to the house of the original detective, who worked the homicide of the archaeologist’s family, to figure out why the man became homicidal and then supposedly delusional. Golam discovers that the files from that case are missing, but is distracted by Lynn before he can continue this course.

Lynn is now completely aware of the depth of the Ambassador’s betrayal. Unable to find Peter, she goes digging on her own and discovers the flight manifest, listing Pastor Billingham’s impending arrival in Jerusalem. She is able to alert Golan and Peter about what she knows, and they arrive at the airstrip in time to see Billingham arrive with Josh 2.0. They overhear Billingham talking about Jehoshaphat, and Peter realizes they must go back to talk to the mental patient Donaldson.

Not coincidentally, Donaldson has been obsessively writing the word Jehoshaphat all over his room. Golan works to get Donaldson out of his drug-induced state, while Peter gets a call from Margrove suggesting the professor may be having second thoughts about his part in the conspiracy. Peter is long gone by the time Donaldson is able to tell Golan anything, and once he does, Golan is hit by a car. I’m not sure if it would have been better or worse to just let Golan slowly bleed to death in the street rather than have a knife shoved into his throat after the fact…by Emma. Did I forget to mention that Peter made the horrible decision to sleep with that girl before all of this?

Lynn is not in much better shape than her two friends by the end of the episode. Golan is now dead, Peter is unavailable for the time being, and Lynn just jumped to the top of the hit list. She intends to run but is found out by her assistant (also in on the conspiracy, by the way) and knocked out.

With only a few days until the ceremony, Avram realizes he can’t allow “Red” to be slaughtered, not even for his religion. Avram spray paints Red to make it look like the heifer is blemished, but the Rabbi is determined that this changes nothing. Avram thinks the only solution is for him to kill the Rabbi instead, but he is stopped by one of the white-robed men who tells him he has the wrong target. If Avram is serious about stopping the end of the world, he needs to kill the high priest, aka Josh 2.0.

There’s only one episode left where all answers will be revealed, but will it be enough to save the world?
