Criminal Minds is one of the longest-running procedural crime dramas, and there’s a good reason for it. This OG show follows an accomplished team of profilers, also known as the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI, who work together to anticipate the moves of the most dangerous serial killers and murderers in the country.

The show aired for over a decade, with 15 successful seasons and impressive 324 episodes. When it ended back in 2020, fans all over the world were crushed to have to say goodbye to this fantastic show. But now, it’s time to hear the good old ‘I think it’s time to deliver the profile’ or ‘Wheels up in 30’ as we get back to unraveling the most twisted criminal minds of the country.

So, what do we know about the Criminal Minds reboot so far? Here’s everything about it.

Is the Criminal Minds Reboot Official?

Yes, Criminal Minds is officially coming back. According to Paramount+, the show has been picked up for revival and will be released to streaming audiences. On 14th July, President of Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, Nicole Clemens, said, “The series never stopped evolving during its run, and we are beyond excited to bring it back into a new era with new stories for a new generation of viewers at Paramount+.”

Some of the actors even took it to social media to share the exciting news with their loyal fan base. The one and only Joe Mantegna posted the news on his Twitter account, giving a sneak peek of the series with this caption: ‘Just doing a little inspection today for an upcoming project. #criminalminds’

Who is coming back for the Criminal Minds revival?

This is where this exciting news gets a little underwhelming. Although most of the original crew is returning to the small screen, there are some faces that will be missed.

The show’s most beloved genius Dr. Spencer Reid (played by the phenomenal Matthew Gray Gubler), may not be reviving his role after all.

Although the actor hasn’t commented on the upcoming Paramount+ revival, his co-star Paget Brewster gave her support to Matthew in an interview with Looper.

“Matthew was the only person in the last two seasons that had been in every single episode. He did 15 years straight through.” She then adds, “He wants to direct. He graduated from NYU to direct, and his first audition was Criminal Minds. Imagine you never expected to be an actor, and then suddenly it’s 15 years of your life. I understand why.”

So who is in the Criminal Minds reboot cast? For now, these are the confirmed cast members:

  • Joe Mantegna as David Rossi
  • Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia
  • Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss
  • A.J. Cook as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau
  • Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez
  • Aisha Tyler as Dr. Tara Lewis

Hopefully, we’ll get more cast updates in the additional announcements coming our way. Until then, we can enjoy Matthew’s performance when we binge-watch the show for the 10th time.

What is the release date of the reboot?

So when can we expect to watch our favorite show again? Unfortunately, for now, we still don’t know the official release date of the revival. However, we do know that the BAU team will be back for production soon, so we can probably expect the revival to start streaming in late 2022 or early 2023.

What will the Criminal Minds revival be about?

The reboot will come in a new specialized format with ten episodes per season. Instead of solving one case per episode, the team will focus on one case throughout the season. Sounds exciting? Wait until you hear more about the actual plot!

It’s scary, chilling, and exciting, to say the least. As per Paramount+ update, the FBI’s elite team of profilers will reunite to face their greatest threat yet, an UnSub who used the pandemic to create a network of other serial killers. The team will be responsible for analyzing and hunting down this group, one murder at a time.

So there you have it! That’s all the information we have so far about this long-anticipated reunion. One thing’s for sure, the BAU is back in business, so it’s time to binge-watch (yet again) the entire show and warm up for the reboot of the year!Paget BrewsterPaget Brewster
