Alan Rickman’s Cinematic Debut: Die Hard
Many people are unaware that Alan Rickman’s very first movie was Die Hard. Before stepping into the shoes of the iconic Hans Gruber, Rickman had only appeared on television. From 1978 to 1988, he hopped from one TV show to another, until the role of Gruber changed not only his life but also the lives of his fans. It’s challenging to surpass the performance he delivered in Die Hard, and, in my opinion, it remains his best movie performance ever. Throughout his career, Rickman assembled an impressive body of work, and I can’t recall a single role in which I didn’t enjoy his performance.
Comparing Alan Rickman to Pearl Jam: A Unique Perspective
I know this might seem like an odd comparison, but I often liken Alan Rickman to the legendary band Pearl Jam. Everyone in the music world knows and acknowledges Pearl Jam’s legendary status. However, can you honestly say that any of their albums compare to Ten? Is it even a close call? Do they have incredible music after the album Ten? Absolutely, or else they wouldn’t be considered one of the best bands of all time. My point is that while we’re all proud of the work Pearl Jam did after Ten, nothing will ever top that album.
The same principle applies to Rickman, in my book. While Severus Snape was an incredible character and other roles he played throughout his career were outstanding, nothing will ever hold a candle to Hans Gruber.
