After about 12 to 13 years of sobriety Colin Farrell has checked himself into rehab on the off chance that his busy schedule, which has been kind of stressful, might tempt him to start using again. At one point in his career Colin had to be checked into rehab since the demanding schedule and stressful life he’d been living finally drove him to start abusing drugs and basically becoming a problem to his fellow cast members and himself. He went into rehab willingly at least and made a go of it, coming out eventually to go without using a single substance again for the next decade and more. At this time however he’s been reportedly starting to feel that particular itch as the stress of a jam-packed schedule has started bearing down on him again. The point is that he knows he’s an addict still and doesn’t want to go down that particular road again, so it’s better safe than sorry.
For some people it might be easy to have some sympathy and pity for Colin, as after all an actor’s life can be pretty demanding since acting isn’t the only thing they ever do. Between having to make appearances on various shows and at other venues and then reporting to their various sets all the time a lot of them don’t seem to have much downtime. But for those of us that are constantly on the go and have other matters to worry about just like the celebs, sympathy is a thing best found in the dictionary. After all the celebrities that tend to go to rehab might be addicts, but they’re also the type that can seek out counseling and rehab alike for the hefty sum of thousands upon thousands of dollars that us mortals don’t have in abundance all the time. Don’t get it twisted, if Colin feels the urge to use then rehab might be the best place for the time being, but having a luxurious ‘elite’ rehab center to escape to is more like taking a vacation at a resort than checking into the ground-level rehab centers that a lot of people have to go through in order to feel better.
Just about every rehab center is fully dedicated to the well-being of their patients and to seeing them leave under their own power as stronger, more capable individuals that know the value of their lives and what it will take to stay clean. The high end luxury suites that Farrell and other celebrities enjoy for a whopping $36,000 a month are more like spas that offer them every luxury they can afford in lieu of the blank walls and group sessions that regular folks have to endure. Again, if he feels the need to make his way to the rehab center and fork over more for one month than some people make in a year, then so be it. That’s his decision. Just don’t be looking for any sympathy.
He’s a big boy and a well-established actor, he can live with his own decisions.
