Colby’s mother said she was going to get ice cream when he was ten years old, and that was the last time he ever saw her. Of course, for a kid, it is a lot to take in, and one is left with so many unanswered questions. We can only hope Colby’s mother is watching her son live his dreams.
2. Colby uses comedy to hide his pain
Everyone has a way of dealing with grief; some will write down their thoughts in a journal; others will express it through songs, and others through art. For Colby, his best remedy to the pain he feels due to his mother abandoning him is by making jokes. He admitted that being a comedian is a strategy he uses to hide his pain.

According to Lionel, some things are teachable, and others are not; magnetism is one of the unteachable things, and Colby Swift has it. Lionel added that the Colby has something that makes people curious, and want to know more about him; something that makes people pay attention to him.

Some people remind us of who we were at a younger age, and for Luke Bryan, Colby did precisely that. After Colby’s performance, Luke Bryan commented that he had never seen anyone walk in to audition and present a younger version of himself when he was 19. Colby responded by asking Luke if he was as good-looking to which Luke replied that it was what he would have said at 19.
5. His father is his biggest fan
It is not unusual to have your parents not support your career or dreams for various reasons; maybe it will not earn you enough money, or it is going against the family tradition. Luckily for Colby, his father has always held his hand through his musical journey and even says he is Colby’s biggest fan.

Maybe the fact that he chose to sing a country song gives his home town away to be somewhere in Texas. Colby is from Midfield, Texas and even Bryan has no idea where that is so Colby explained that it is nowhere near Houston. Midfield is a tiny agricultural town to the south of Houston, near the coastline.
7. His father encouraged him to pursue music
No parent wants to watch their child suffer from an incident they have to deal with therefore to help Colby cope with the reality that his mother had abandoned them, Colby’s father encouraged him to pursue music. Now it is paying off since Colby is heading off to Hollywood.
8. The judges took a chance on him
Colby Swift’s singing is not as polished as judges would like it to be, but Luke Bryan felt an instant connection with him that he decided to give the teenager another try. Therefore he requested Colby to stop stringing his guitar and do an acapella which sounded much better but still, Luke, not wanting to seem biased asked the other judges, Katy and Lionel, to deliberate and they thought it best to give Colby a chance to go to Hollywood.

Colby tried his luck in getting a ticket to Hollywood by performing “Cast No Stones” by Cody Jinks. Although he did not do the song much justice due to his rough performance, he still managed to get his ticket.

They say prayer can move mountains and it did for Colby who got a chance to perform in front of the three “American Idol” judges. When Luke Bryan asked Colby to talk about himself, he said it is a prayer that had gotten him this far, and the judges agreed that the prayer is a song in the making. Colby replied that he already wrote and it would take them by storm if they listened to it.
