Chrissy Metz is one of the breakout stars of the hit NBC show This is Us, and for good reason. She’s a talented actress with a great story to tell. Did you know that before Metz landed her part in This is Us she had $18 to her name? Yes, EIGHTEEN dollars. The star has grown quite accustomed to doing interviews about her life, part on the show, and subject that gets brought up consantly: her weight. It’s a focal point of her character Kate Pearson but this obviously also a topic of discussion in her real life. According to TV Guide
Even though Metz admitted to Marie Claire that she doesn’t weigh herself or “worry about numbers” on a scale, she also says that she’d be interested in appearing on a series where she’d have to do so every week. “I would love to go on The Biggest Loser, where it’s a concentrated thing,” Metz explained. “My father is a big guy; he’s had a quadruple bypass surgery, and that’s scary. Those are real things that happen in families with overweight people, and I don’t want that.” (Presumably, Metz spoke to Marie Claire before news broke that Biggest Loser host and trainer Bob Harper suffered a heart attack.)
Metz admitted that when she got to Hollywood and was getting rejected for roles, she would turn to food as comfort. The actress gained over 100 pounds in her 20s but then she mistook panic attack for a heart attack and decided to turn things around.
Metz says her ultimate goal is “to be proportioned,” rather than stick-thin. (She also clears up that “weight loss contract” mess once and for all, saying “we haven’t even talked about an actual number with Kate. Ever.”)
So far she hasn’t booked many acting gigs outside of This is Us, but I think an appearance on The Biggest Loser would do wonders for her career. I’ll certainly be rooting for her.
