In this week’s Chicago Fire, Mouch and Trudy prepare to walk down the aisle. But amidst their wedding plans (and nerves), their colleague Brett is threatened, and another couple’s happiness begins to show faint cracks under pressure.
Now that Casey is Alderman, the reality of the job is setting in. Dawson is a godsend in helping him getting situated. A call at a fire gives Casey an idea for what his first big act as Alderman should be. Casey happens to be on the voting committee to reject a construction company’s business, Gallow Construction, who wants to continue to build inadequate structures. Dawson breaks the news to Casey that Gallow has most of the city council in his pocket. Even with an uphill battle ahead, Casey pushes through and calls every single alderman in the city to discourage them from voting Gallow’s way. Casey loses miserably, but he knows he did the right thing.
Mouch’s wedding to Trudy has finally arrived, and the groom is getting a little nervous. He struggles with writing his vows and is in desperate need of Best Man Herrmann’s assistance. The more nervous Mouch gets, the more he starts leaning towards calling off the wedding altogether. Herrmann calms him down by telling him that things will settle down once Mouch and Trudy are actually married.
Otis is determined to make Mouch’s wedding his opportunity for a date with Brett. The last thing Brett is thinking about is a date when she witnesses a shooting on a call and the shooter steals her ID as leverage to keep her quiet. Brett is not impressed with the protection the police send, so she decides to try to get ahold of Antonio Dawson for help. He sets her up with a protective detail, but the shooter still calls Brett and threatens her. After this Boden pulls Brett off shift, for her own safety and for the safety of her patients. Boden temporarily pairs Dawson with Jimmy in the meantime, and as luck would have it, the first call they get is to save Brett’s stalker. There’s nothing that can be done to save him, which on the bright side means that Brett is safe again. Brett ends up bonding with Jimmy throughout this ordeal and Otis realizes it just wasn’t meant to be with him and Brett. This turns out to be a good thing as he meets a cute Russian girl at Mouch’s wedding.
It turns out Trudy has the exact same jitters that her groom has. Gabby and Burgess do their best to calm Trudy and remind her that she and Mouch are perfect together. Mouch and Trudy happily tie the knot, which gets Casey thinking about why he and Gabby haven’t gone ahead and gotten married themselves. Gabby’s argument that they are in a good place personally and professionally is perfectly rational. The way she says it though throws Casey a bit off balance. Could this become a source of friction between the two moving forward?
Congratulations to the happy couple, and fingers crossed that we can look forward to another Chicago Fire wedding as opposed to a break-up.
