Earlier this month we saw a passionate Ashton Kutcher speaking to congress about human trafficking, something he takes extremely seriously. So seriously that this is all he spends his day time doing. Kutcher is passionate about it and you can see right past his celebrity when hearing him talk about it. I bring this up because while not many celebrities do that kind of good in the world, there are plenty out there who go unnoticed and are not the people expected them to be. Today that person is Rihanna and she’s not going unnoticed.
Rihanna has just been named Harvard University’s Humanitarian of the Year. The singer, who has received countless awards for her music career, will collect the prize on campus next week in honor of her philanthropic endeavors in her native country of Barbados and beyond. “Rihanna has charitably built a state-of-the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” Harvard Foundation director S Allen Counter told People.
When you look at Rihanna you generally think of things like her music videos or relationships. You think of her Instagram account or her dancing antics at awards shows. What you don’t think about is the millions of dollars she spends to help people in her native country and beyond. Celebrities should take a look at this honor and think a bit more seriously about what they’re giving back. I know I am and I don’t have millions, that’s for sure.
Could you even imagine seeing a Justin Bieber or a Kardashian get an award like this? Impossible. This makes me respect and admire someone like Rihanna even more. Not only is she talented but the woman has a great heart.
