Casting a Bill Cosby Movie Biopic

Casting a Bill Cosby Movie Biopic

If you’re going to do a film about Bill Cosby then it needs to be done in a way that people really remember and enjoy. It’s been years now since we got to see the Cosby Show featuring the Huxtables in all their funny and dramatic glory. It would be a real treat to finally see them reach the big screen and relive those moments for a brief period of time. Remember when you just had to watch The Cosby show in the evening? It was the highlight of our days sometimes and the best thing to turn around a bad mood. Casting a biopic of this favored show would be a breath of fresh air borne on the wings of nostalgia for many fans.

So who would be right for the show?

Director – Beth McCarthy-Miller

Why her? Well to be quite honest she’s worked on the type of sitcom that the Huxtables starred in and could possibly bring this biopic to a new level on the big screen. She’s got the resume and the skills to bring the Huxtables into the mainstream and could possibly do a very convincing job when it comes to making the transition from TV to film.

Cliff Huxtable – Eddie Murphy

This would be one of the hardest parts to fill simply because he was the iconic father figure and husband that made the show work. It was called the Cosby Show, remember? He was the face and the heart of the entire thing, and thus would need an actor to fill those shoes that could do the job right. Since Eddie Murphy has shown that he can be funny and be clean with his jokes, there’s no reason why a man that’s parodied Cosby in the past couldn’t possibly step into the role.

Clair Huxtable – Taraji P. Henson

She’s a busy lady, but Taraji has also shown that she has the type of acting skill that could be brought to bear in drama, comedy, or a combination of the two. There aren’t a lot of women that could fill Clair Huxtable’s shoes, but Taraji P. Henson isn’t a lot of women. She’s unique in a way that would bring a very stunning sense of professionalism and class to this role.

Theo Huxtable – Michael B. Jordan

He’s still young enough that he could pull off a pre-college Theo and make it work. His look is youthful enough that with a little help he could pass for the irascible son of the Huxtable clan. Plus, his acting is on point and he knows how to be goofy as well as serious.

Rudy Huxtable – Rhyon Nicole Brown

There are two main reasons for this choice. One, she looks very young despite being in her twenties, and two, she has the right look for Rudy. Considering this would be a Hollywood film it would be best to feature those that had actual experience in such a venue.

The plot

This could be a very touching goodbye to the Huxtables for good and all, a time in which Theo and Rudy are just about out of the house, and Cliff and Clair are about to finally have their home to themselves. It could then go through the transition of the empty nest syndrome before bringing all the kids back in order to share a tender moment before the ending of the film. In short, a final goodbye to the fans as a way of saying thanks for the memories.

Will this ever happen? No one knows really, but it would be a touching throwback to a show that was loved by so many.
