It has been announced that Sylvia Hoeks has been chosen to play the role of Sylvia Kristel in an upcoming biopic, which remains unnamed at this point in time. For those who are unfamiliar with her name, Hoeks was the Dutch actress who played Luv in Blade Runner 2049, though it should be noted that she has appeared in a wide range of other projects over the course of her career so far. Regardless, those who are curious about the upcoming biopic should be known that will be directed by Michael R. Roskam, who is known for both Drop and Bullhead.
Who Was Sylvia Kristel?
At this point, it is worth going into further detail on Sylvia Kristel, who will be the subject of the upcoming biopic. For those who are curious, Kristel was a Dutch actress who appeared in more than 50 movies over the course of her lifetime. However, she was best-known for her role in playing the titular character in the Emmanuelle movies, which were a series of French softcore porn movies based on a book of the same name. The Emmanuelle movies pushed the boundaries of what was considered to be acceptable for the movie screen in the 1970s, but in spite of this fact, they managed to be significant successes, as shown by the fact that they were actually made. In fact, Kristel became so well-known for her role as Emmanuelle that she went on to play other roles in other movies that made use of her resulting image, including some made in Hollywood.
With that said, the upcoming biopic will be focused on Kristel’s career in the 1970s and the 1980s. Said period was when her career was at its height. However, said period was also when Kristel had what can be called a troubled life, seeing as how she developed a cocaine habit because she was not wholly aware of the potential consequences. As a result, Kristel is known to have made a number of poor choices because of her cocaine habit, with an excellent example being how she sold her interest in a successful movie called Private Lessons to her agent in exchange for $150,000. On top of this, Kristel went through a number of troubled relationships with older men over the course of this period, which she attributed in part to her search for a father figure. Something that might have been connected to the divorce of her parents in her childhood when her father abandoned her family for another woman, which Kristel once called the saddest event to have ever happened to her.
Summed up, it seems that the upcoming biopic about Kristel could prove to be quite interesting. After all, Hoek has made note of the fact that Kristel introduced a lot of women to a new way of looking at sex, while Roskam has made note of Kristel’s complex personality as well as how that made it difficult to understand the full extent of who she was as a person. It remains to seen what the upcoming biopic will look like, but it is clear that there are a lot of topics that can be explored.
