The Big Bang Theory 7.06 Review: “The Romance Resonance”

bang

At least once a week I get “The Big Bang Theory” theme song stuck in my head. Stinking Barenaked Ladies and their ability to write a catchy tune that makes me sound like I’m mumbling. And honestly, it will have nothing to do with having just heard it on TV on Thursdays. It’s just one of those ear worms and then you start talking about it. Then you realize just how many people watch this geeky guilty pleasure. I love that I live in a world where the biggest shows on TV are uber geeky and/or Zombie related.

This world I live in starts with a raccoon virus presented by Bernadette who is entirely too excited that it has crossed species and can now infect humans. It’s creepy and scary and I know people like that which makes it worse. But as she goes to the ladies room, Howard announces that he has an amazing idea for the anniversary of their first date. He tries to recruit them for a song that he wrote for her which will be bankable as a get out of jail free card for any future mess ups.

The whole time Sheldon is engrossed in something. “In the zone.” He is so distracted by whatever it is he’s working on he totally misses his apartment and keeps walking up stairs. Leonard becomes worried that he hasn’t really spoke in a few days. Sheldon has a EURIKA! moment and announces he found a way to synthesize a super heavy metal element alloy thing. I’m not sure what it was- there were a lot of big words said that I will never understand because my mind does not do the maths well. What I did pick up, and it was probably my favorite line of the night, was that his “mind made a baby.” And just like a proud parent he gushes over it like a brand new dad.

It isn’t until he is sitting with Amy pointing out exactly what he was using and how he did it does he realize that he read a chemical properties table wrong proving once again that even geniuses in America don’t understand the metric system. Even though China was able to use his equations to come up with something brand new and shiny, he is depressed because it was all a fluke. Since Sheldon isn’t human, he can’t be happy for himself or science. He gets more and unhappy as good things happen, like a raise or a big grant for his research. Amy finally uses a bit of reverse psychology to tell him how disappointed she is that he messed up a simple table. He finally calms down.

Back to Howards anniversary idea, the gang is all gathered with their instruments (Sheldon has a plastic recorder, like you do) but Howard announces there was an accident at the lab involving that pesky raccoon virus. He rushes to the hospital to find her in quarantine and while she’s fine it’s sad that she could make his big romantic gesture. But he ears major points for bringing the gang to the hospital and singing the song there. It was seriously the sweetest most romantic song ever and you all need to YouTube it right now. It was geeky but was just too cute to see him choking up during the number. Major points for him.

The last little tid bit of the episode shows Amy and Sheldon back on the couch. He tells her it’s all her fault for being so distracting. He says he can’t stop thinking about wanting to kiss her and that’s why he read the table wrong. As he leans in we see Amy in a restaurant with Sheldon with her eyes closed in her own little zone. I was almost fooled. Almost.
