Journey is a classic and very well used sound in many movies that can be instantly recognized. Their music has been used in so many films and TV shows that you might find yourself humming the lyrics to one of their songs even if you heard it months or years before. Their music is simply one of those things that comes back to you unbidden when you seem to need a pick me up and have nothing else in mind to do the trick. In films their songs are usually a nice addition to the soundtrack or a pleasing way to cut up the monotony.
Here are five films that used Journey’s music to great effect.
5. Caddyshack – Any Way You Want It
On a golf course where the caddies are already proven to be less than attentive and are almost always itching for some reason to part, Al Cervik is the answer to their prayers. Sure his bag might be loaded down a bit with a few custom modifications, but each one of them seems to be beneficial to the whole idea of the game. Tell me who wouldn’t enjoy a little music on the course. You know, besides Judge Smails.
4. Losers – Don’t Stop Believin’
Sometimes it doesn’t even take hearing the song in Journey’s customary version. As evidenced by Chris Evans the band is well-remembered and can be used as a needed diversion that can insure an elevator all to yourself. Even better, the song comes on while Evans is making his escape as well, this time, thankfully, with Journey singing the actual tune.
3. Tron: Legacy – Separate Ways
This seems to fit the movie fairly well, and it’s a popular song too. It’s one of Journey’s harder, more serious tunes but it still carries their original sound and complements Tron in a way that brings to mind the seriousness of the plot. It’s too bad that Tron:Legacy didn’t live up to the reputation of its predecessor, the plot was feasible, it was just the acting and the development that seemed to go stale.
2. Monsters vs.Aliens – Who’s Crying Now
Talk about a well-traveled make out song. Except how often do you see the guy pushing the woman off? Talk about who’s crying now, the guy in the letterman jacket is kind of a weenie and the woman is the straight up aggressive type. You get the feeling she would have been happier with a jock that just wanted to get frisky. Of course that might not have been as funny.
1. Vision Quest – Only The Young
Wrestling, REAL wrestling, is not an easy sport. It takes hard work, dedication, and a commitment to yourself that has to be absolute if you’re going to make it work. Plus like any sport it can take a hard toll on your life as you need to focus and bear down on what’s important and avoid any extraneous things such as, well, you know, a life. That’s what real dedication is. Once you climb the mountain then you can finally start enjoying yourself. Sometimes only the young can understand this.
Journey is, in a word, awesome. They have obviously earned their place in rock and film history.
