Starting her career as a soap opera actress definitely seems to have agreed with Rebecca Ferguson since she’s been an extremely professional presence on the screen throughout her movie career thus far and has possibly only been hampered by whatever movie she happens to be in when it comes to whether she’s seen as good or bad. The downfall of a bad movie is that it does tend to stick to the actors at times and thereby affect their reputation. She’s only been in a couple of movies that have failed to do as expected thus far, so it’s easy to think that she’s been as solid in her acting as anyone could possibly ask. Depending on what the movie she’s in is all about it’s easy to see that she’s versatile enough to make a person believe that she’s a hardened character or someone that’s a bit fragile but not entirely breakable.
Here are her five best movies.
5. The Greatest Showman
Betsy Golden Kellem from Vanity Fair gives a pretty good accounting of P.T. Barnum and who the man was, but this movie tends to give a very entertaining view that may or may not be all that accurate since as a musical it’s bound to have a bit more fun given that this is what people expected to see. But the man’s name and legacy endured for a while after his passing for a reason after all and it’s because that taking a chance in this country and showing that people are people no matter who they are or what they look like, or where they come from, is an important view to take note of no matter how much it might scare others.
4. Life
Wendy Ide from The Guardian does what some folks might have been looking for and compares this movie to Alien as a kind of ripoff since quite honestly the idea that the alien does go after one crew member after the other is kind of telling. But at the same time it has a much different feel than Ridley Scott’s movie since not only is the creature capable of absorbing its prey while it kills them, it’s also different in form if not in desire. Where the xenomorph was all about seeking out and destroying the crew members of the Nostromo, this creature is planning something a little different it would seem, and it definitely seems to be smarter.
3. Dr. Sleep
Owen Williams of Empire Online gives whoever’s interested a rundown of what they should know prior to this movie coming out, but one thing that anyone that’s read the book should know is that despite being kind of a sequel to The Shining, it will be a different animal altogether. Danny is all grown up and there are new villains on the horizon that are increasingly more dangerous than what he faced at the Overlook since they’re mobile, they’re coordinated, and they’re hungry in a way that keeps them on edge continually and unable to do anything but seek out those that they feed upon, those with the Shining.
2. The Girl on the Train
This is one of the more insidious stories that’s been tossed on the screen in recent years and it’s definitely one that seems to have come from a devious and romantic mind, with all due respect. Anyone, woman or man, that seeks to make their spouse think that they’re crazy and are worthy of the scorn they feel on a constant basis has some very deep-rooted issues that need to be worked out. In this instance however the woman that’s seen to stumble around part of the movie trying to get her bearings continually is the one that’s actually more sane than anyone, but doesn’t realize it until later.
1. Mission: Impossible-Fallout
The desire for this to be the last one is something that a lot of people have at least been hinting at since it almost feels like it’s time for Tom Cruise to pass the torch. As of yet though it doesn’t seem as though there’s anyone that’s willing to step up or can step up to take his spot. Ferguson is, at best, an accomplice and friend in this movie and she’s a very skilled accomplice as well since she bails Ethan out and even helps Benji during the course of a fight. She plays the part of a very tough and worthy agent, but until Cruise is ready to retire Hunt, which doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon, it’s likely that she’ll have to keep tailing after him or find a reason for her character to go off and do her own thing. The action in these movies is great, but apart from that things have gotten way too predictable.
She’s got a lot of promise when it comes to do anything she wants.
